Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has an “untouchable” position at the club in a similar fashion to Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona, according to a report from Spain.
Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, claim that Pogba is effectively Man United’s ‘Messi’ in the sense that he is seen as more important than anyone else at the club and that he’s the best player in the side.
The Spanish outlet suggest that the Glazer family, who hold a 98% voting share in United and have owned the club since 2005, will not sanction the sale of Pogba.
The Frenchman’s relationship with manager Jose Mourinho has grown colder through the course of the summer and now this season. Pogba was stripped of the vice-captaincy by Mourinho after thinly-veiled comments about United’s playing style in home fixtures at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, reports from across Europe and in England have suggested that Pogba wants to leave the club to join Barcelona.
Mundo indicate that Pogba is seen as an integral member of the squad regardless of Mourinho’s position.
While Pogba probably has a longer term future at United than Mourinho, it’s not positive news to hear that a player seemingly has more power than the manager.
