Jamie Redknapp has praised Anthony Martial as Manchester United’s best forward at the moment.
The Frenchman is beginning to find his best form at the club and is hitting goals at a similar rate to his first season at Man United when he netted 17 goals despite only being a teenager.
Martial scored United’s second goal on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 victory against Everton at Old Trafford having scored a double at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea the previous weekend. He looks confident and a fearsome prospect for defenders.
It’s the kind of Martial not seen by United fans for some time now, having struggled since Jose Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal as manager in 2016. Redknapp commented after Sunday’s game that Martial is a level above his attacking teammates when he’s on form.
“When he’s [Martial] playing well in that position, he’s the best they’ve got,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports in the aftermath of the game.
The 22-year-old wasn’t quite up to the same standard in midweek against Juventus in a 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat at home, but bounced back well against Everton.
He’s United’s most exciting player at the moment and creates things when others fail to do so.
Consistency is key now, particularly if Martial wants to really force manager Mourinho to pick him every game without question.
