Manchester United target Milan Skriniar has commented on the rumours linking him with a move from Inter Milan to the Premier League clubs.
The Slovakian defender has been tipped to be one of the main targets of Man United manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese coach is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements after his demands for a new centre-back were not heeded to by the club’s transfer chiefs.
Skriniar is one of a number of Serie A defenders linked with Mourinho and United. Other notable targets from the Italian league include AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli, according to ESPN FC.
However, the 23-year-old has refused to talk in detail about the rumours suggesting he’s on United’s radar. He did confirm, though, that there was also interest from a number of clubs, potentially including United, in the summer
“I just read that, but I’m not thinking about these things,” Skriniar said.
“There were these rumours in the summer too but nothing happened in the end and I don’t think anything will happen now.
“There are a lot of matches with Inter, right after the international break there are important games like the Milan derby and we need to prepare well.”
It’s the classic comments from a player who is in the news, talking about his own team’s challenges and the need to focus on those before any spotlight is placed on a possible transfer.
However, Skriniar did say that a move is now unlikely. It could well be true. While reports on Monday indicated interest from United in the defender, he is highly valued by Inter Milan.
Skriniar is seen as a long-term player by the San Siro club and United would be pushed for a huge transfer fee to take away a talented 23-year-old.
