Serbian football scout Goran Milosavljevic believes Lazio midfielder and Manchester United summer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is not ready to join a top Premier League club.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic season with Lazio last year and attracted interest from Man United and other top clubs in the process.
However, according to Gianluca di Marzio, United withdrew their interest in Milinkovic-Savic after balking at his valuation, which is thought to be north of £100m.
And according to Milosavljevic, speaking to Tribal Football, there are still aspects to Milinkovic-Savic’s game which could considerably improve.
“I don’t think so. I think maybe in a few years. At the moment he is not ready, he doesn’t have enough quality,” he said.
“He played at the World Cup and his price went down because of his performance. Physically and quick-thinking need work.
“He also needs to work when his team doesn’t have the ball. Steven Gerrard played in the same position and he ran 14km for a game with many sprints.”
United face the prospect of losing Paul Pogba, the heartbeat of their team, in the transfer window next summer and the Serbian has been viewed by many as a potential replacement.
But you get the sense that Mourinho, or whoever is in charge next May, will want to move for a more experienced player when it comes to filling such an important role in the team.
