Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has called out Jose Mourinho, claiming his comments on the media manhunt after him are ‘laughable’.
The Portuguese manager hit out at the press after his side’s dramatic win against Newcastle, lamenting how he’s blamed for everything that happens.
United managed to overcome the away side despite conceding twice within the first 10 minutes of the clash as they hit back with three goals in the last 20 minutes.
The 3-2 win will see Mourinho hold onto his job for now but Ferdinand believes his comments post-match were laughable given how things actually are.
The former Real Madrid manager has butt heads with the media in the past and it’s fair to say they don’t see eye to eye anymore.
According to Manchester Evening News, Rio said to BT Sport: “I don’t know where wickedness and a man hunt comes from. I don’t know what he’s talking about.
“You say what you see, you can’t expect anything different. To sit and moan ‘they’re hunting me and it’s wickedness’, I find that laughable.”
Ferdinand is obviously part of the media he’s defending as he currently works as a pundit.
The Englishman hasn’t been afraid of airing his opinions before and hasn’t held back from criticising from Mourinho wherever applicable.
Rio had previously insisted the pressure that a United manager experiences is different to any other club and so one has to adapt accordingly.
Perhaps Jose isn’t comfortable with that idea but there’s definitely truth with the extent his role is under the microscope.
