Manchester United are set to make a move for young Sunderland goalkeeper talent Adam Richardson.
The Sun on Sunday (via Football League World) writes in its print edition that the Reds are keen to bring Richardson to Old Trafford for around half a million pounds.
Richardson is only 15 years old but that won’t stop Man United from pursuing him given his obvious talent.
The goalkeeper is highly rated at Sunderland and represents England at under-15 level.
Since Nicky Butt took charge of the academy at Manchester United in 2015, the club have revolutionised the way they bring in young players.
Some of the biggest names currently in United’s youth sides have been signed from domestic or European rivals for reasonable sized fees.
Tahith Chong, for example, was brought in from Dutch side Feyenoord. He’s now seen as one of the brightest talents at United and was given his non-competitive debut for the first team by Jose Mourinho in the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States of America.
The academy at United has a history of producing some good goalkeepers, such as Tom Heaton who is now at Burnley. Currently in the set up are Dean Henderson, an Englishman excelling on loan at Championship side Sheffield United, and Joel Pereira, tipped to be the finest Portuguese goalkeeper of his generation by manager Mourinho.
Others like Sam Johnstone have left the club due to a route to the first team being blocked.
