Man United player reveals truth about squad’s relationship with Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has hailed manager Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese coach comes under question for his relationship with his squad.

Many have claimed that Mourinho has fallen out with far too many players within the Man United set-up, but Pereira insisted recently that he has a ‘very good’ relationship with the 55-year-old United boss and that the rest of the players do, too.

In particular, there have been reports of falling outs between Mourinho and Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. Some have even claimed, including former-players Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand, that the players are no longer trying their hardest for Mourinho.

Pereira has slammed such reports as false.

“I have a very good relationship with him [Mourinho] and with the players,” Pereira told Brazilian outlet UOL [via Sport Witness].

“And he also has a good relationship with the players. We don’t feel that pressure coming from outside. Everyone says that he’s being sacked. We do not feel that.”

Pereira criticised the English media’s ‘toxic’ reports and said he avoids any of it on his phone. The 22-year-old midfielder hasn’t played much this season, but appreciates the chances he has got from Jose Mourinho.

“I don’t usually have any English media on my phone so I don’t get intoxicated with everything they say,” Pereira continued. “He’s our manager, we give our life on the pitch for him and for us too. Everyone is very calm, very focused and very happy.”

“Mourinho gave me a chance, he said to me: ‘I want you to stay here’. It would be a shot on my own foot to badmouth the guy who gave me the first opportunity to play and is still giving it.”

Pereira needs to be given more chances after impressing in pre-season. He was dropped after the 3-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, a game in which everyone on the pitch was terrible, and has hardly been given a fair chance to shine since. He’s a quality midfielder who needs games to develop properly in English football.
