Man United identify and contact successor to Jose Mourinho - report

Manchester United have already been in contact with representatives of Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri regarding the possibility of the Italian replacing Jose Mourinho at the club.

Allegri is currently tasked with finally guiding Juventus to a UEFA Champions League title, an achievement they have come painfully close to completing in the last half a decade or so, but are yet to do.

At United, meanwhile, Mourinho’s target was to win the league in his first three seasons at the club. That hasn’t been achieved and the Portuguese coach is under huge pressure after a woeful start to the season in which Man United lost three of their opening seven Premier League fixtures and were knocked out of the League Cup in their first match to a Championship side.

CalcioMercato exclusively reports that Allegri is being lined up as Mourinho’s replacement.

The Italian outlet suggests that while Allegri is deeply involved and committed to Juventus at the moment, United are considering an approach for Allegri when Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford comes to an end.

For now, it is described as merely “an exploration” but the website indicate that it shows Allegri is a key target if United are to sack Mourinho soon and look for a replacement.

Zinedine Zidane, the former-Real Madrid boss, was heavily linked with United. The Frenchman left the Bernabeu in the summer after three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. His agent, though, has explained that he doesn’t want to manage in England.

One possibility is that United could hire Allegri and Zidane could return to Juventus, where he entertained the masses as a player.
