Jose Mourinho plans to increase the number of starting opportunities for new signing Diogo Dalot after the October international break, according to reports.
The Portuguese full-back, signed from Porto for £19m over the summer, impressed on debut against Young Boys and looked solid in his home debut against Derby County.
But he has not played a minute since that penalty defeat to Frank Lampard’s side – a total of three matches – to the frustration of many Manchester United supporters.
According to M.E.N‘s Ciaran Kelly, a source close to Dalot, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance, has claimed that Man United will not hold the teenager back for long.
“He’s loving every minute,” the source said. “They will continue to ease him in, but I don’t believe they will hold him back for too long.”
Mourinho previous signing from Portugal, Victor Lindelof, did not make a Premier League start until November. Even Fred – a £52.7m signing who went to the World Cup – has been reduced to only four starts in the league after two months.
In other words, the 55-year-old will be in no mood to rush Dalot’s development at Old Trafford. The early signs have been very promising.
