Who Is Vinai Venkatesham? The Man Stepping Up As Ivan Gazidis Leaves Arsenal

There has been a board-level shuffle at Arsenal in the aftermath of Ivan Gazidis’ decision to leave the club for AC Milan.

It has been coming for some time but finally, we have confirmation of Ivan Gazidis’ departure from Arsenal.

The club’s Chief Executive is heading for the exit door on 31 October and a boardroom shuffle has been announced by the club.

Arsenal have confirmed that former FC Barcelona man, Raul Sanllehi has moved from the role pf head of football relations to head of football.

That was somewhat expected but one thing which wasn’t was the appointment of Vinai Venkatesham as managing director.

Presumably, Venkatesham will take Gazidis’ place on the Arsenal Board of Directors but not much was previously known about him.

Well, Venkatesham has been at the club since March 2010 and operated in a number of different roles.

He has served as Arsenal’s head of global partnerships, director of global partnerships and business strategy, sales and marketing director before undertaking his most recent role as the chief commercial officer.

“From the day I joined Arsenal I have always considered it a privilege to serve this great football club, so it’s an honour to take up the position of managing director and lead the club alongside Raul,” Venkatesham said of his appointment.

“Together we will work tirelessly with the extraordinary staff we have at Arsenal to respect and enhance our unique history, heritage and values; with the overall objective to bring success to our millions of fans all around the world and make them proud of their club.

“I thank Stan and Josh Kroenke and the rest of the board for their trust in me, and Ivan for all the support he has given me since I joined the club in 2010.”

It’s an interesting appointment. Most expected Stan Kroenke’s son, Josh to take over as the club’s Chief Executive. That may still happen as the position is currently vacant but it seems as if Vinai Venkatesham’s new role will take on many of Gazidis’s current duties.
