A scout has revealed why Arsenal passed up on the offer of signing former Manchester United defender, Nemanja Vidic (via The Chester Chronicle).
Arsenal have struggled defensively so far this season but that is nothing new as far as the Gunners are concerned.
The Gunners haven’t really had an exceptional defence for over a decade, stretching back to the end of the Invincibles era in 2005.
Meanwhile, rivals Manchester United had one of the best centre-back pairings in the world and now, it has been revealed that Arsenal were offered the chance to sign one of them.
“I had worked with Arsenal closely for 15 years when Arsene Wenger was there,” said scout, Goran Milosavljevic who played for a number of European sides.
“I remember in 2005 with Nemanja Vidic when he was playing for Spartak Moscow. I told Arsenal that he is a quality player and someone that they should sign. I had known him since he had been playing for Red Star Belgrade.
“But they didn’t trust my judgement on the player and nothing happened and he ended up signing for Manchester United a year later. He could have ended up playing for Arsenal if they would have trusted me on that one.”
It’s disappointing to hear stories like this. Nemanja Vidic is one of the best defenders in Premier League history and would have seriously helped the Gunners over that period.
