Former England manager Sam Allardyce believes the reason why Manchester United failed to grab all three points vs Wolves last weekend was due to a European hangover.
Jose Mourinho’s men needed to continue their good form by getting what looked like a straightforward win at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately a draw was all they could muster with the players looking far from inspired.
Allardyce thinks it’s possible United’s midweek efforts against Young Boys may have affected their result against Wolves.
Mourinho had admitted his players seemed to lack any form of motivation and it reflected in their display.
According to the Express, Sam said to talkSPORT: “There were signs they were on the right track, they had a comfortable win in Europe.
“But maybe that European game has affected some of the players on Saturday. Maybe that was the real key element that Manchester United underperformed.
“Manchester United have always been able to cope with that situation but maybe they didn’t cope with it so well.
“It’s always a good time to play against a team when they come back from Europe, whether it’s the Europa League or Champions League.
“Maybe there was a little bit of a hangover from that Champions League trip.”
The Red Devils have continued to show a worrying trend of inconsistency, with fans increasingly becoming frustrated with their players.
Some supporters believe it’s Jose’s responsibility to motivate his players while others believe it’s the players’ responsibilities to motivate themselves.
Wherever the responsibility lays, it’s clearly an issue that needs to be addressed and solved as soon as possible.
Fans can accept poor results as long as it’s clear the players have given their all such as against Tottenham.
However, they can’t accept players cruising through the motions and not giving their heart for the badge such as against Brighton.
