Pundit Andy Gray has revealed how Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho feels about the criticism he’s received, insisting he doesn’t care what people think.
The Portuguese boss has been consistently attacked for how his side has played their football since he’s arrived at the club.
Mourinho has a reputation for being a defensive manager and even some fans have gotten frustrated with the counter-attacking style.
Couple that with United’s poor start to the season and the former Real Madrid manager has gotten more criticism than ever of late.
Gray though has taken a hard look at the facts, dismissing how the club’s rivals have gotten on this campaign.
According to the Express, Andy said: “Do you know what Mourinho would say if he was sat right there?
“He would say ‘hold on, you said who have moved on? Chelsea, where were they last year? Behind us. Liverpool, where were they last year? Behind us. Tottenham, where were they last year? Behind us. Arsenal, where were they last year? Behind us’.
“I mean, that’s a fact. That’s a fact. They were all behind Manchester United. Mourinho sets his team up to win a football match.
“He doesn’t care what the people watching think about his football teams. He sees his team against the other team on paper and he sets his team up, whether it’s to win 1-0, 2-0.”
As true as what Gray said, fans are actually concerned the way the Red Devils have started the season will see them being left behind this time around.
Jose’s men have lost two of their three fixtures with back to back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham taking it’s toll on morale.
Manchester United have the opportunity to turn things around against Burnley later today but will have to put in improved performances.
Last season Mourinho had led his players to a second placed finish but it was a mighty 19 points behind champions Manchester City.
