Paul Pogba explains why Alexis Sanchez is struggling for Man United

Paul Pogba has backed struggling Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez to eventually come good at the club.

Alexis joined as part of a swap-deal with Arsenal in January of this year. Armenian forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan, another player who struggled in Red, went the other way to join the Gunners.

The Chilean attacker has not found his Arsenal form in the shirt of Man United, and his performances are justifying Jose Mourinho dropping him from the starting line-up. That has not happened yet.

Pogba believes Alexis is still adjusting to a different style of football under Mourinho compared to his former-manager Arlene Wenger.

“Alexis is a hard worker. He trains very well, he always tries to help the team, talks with the team and everything,” Pogba said, via the Evening Standard.

“When you play a long time with another team and you play different football in that other team you have some kind of adaptation.”

That may be true, but it has now been eight months and more since Sanchez signed for United. He’s had a full pre-season with the squad due to his country, Chile, not qualifying for the summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Most would have expected him to adapt by now. There have been moments where his ability is obvious, but United fans want to see the Alexis Sanchez that could make something out of nothing for Arsenal. Pogba thinks that player will come soon.

“It’s not that he is playing bad,” Pogba continued.

“We know that Alexis Sanchez can bring a lot and I’m sure he will. I’m sure he will. But he’s not playing bad and he keeps being positive, so that’s the good thing we have to think about.”

Should Alexis find his form at United, the Reds could look a completely different side. Romelu Lukaku is currently relied upon to find the net. Pogba has hit four this season, which has helped, but United need a more well-rounded goal contribution.

That’s especially true because Lukaku is a 20-goal a season striker in the league at most, nowhere near a 30-goal a season forward.
