FIFA are reportedly set to introduce a rule that will cap the number of players a club is allowed to loan per season, which could have huge implications for Chelsea.
Sport Bild are reporting that teams may only be allowed to loan out eight players in the coming years, a stark contrast to the 40 players that Chelsea currently have away from the club on a temporary basis.
Chelsea are one of many teams that have utilised the loan market to great success in recent years but have often been criticised for ‘stockpiling’ talent behind the scenes.
The new rule is likely to see a host of players leave the club when it is introduced, with more experienced players like Michy Batshuayi and Tiemoue Bakayoko currently still out on loan, despite being fully fledged senior players.
Chelsea have become more open to selling players recently, with the option of a buy-back clause included, which could be a familiar pattern going forward.
