Manchester United legend Gary Neville has seemingly backed Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof to shine for Jose Mourinho.
The centre-back position is one that has been heavily discussed this season due to what happened over the summer.
It was understood Mourinho hoped to invest in a proven defender such as Toby Alderweireld but was eventually left empty-handed.
Since the start of the season the defensive pairings have been chopped and changed a little but Neville has suggested Smalling and Lindelof can be the consistent pair.
The two defenders have featured together in back to back matches against Burnley and Watford where United managed to pick up all six points.
According to the Daily Star, Gary said to Manchester Evening News: “I said earlier there wasn’t an obvious pair amongst them and now Jose Mourinho has obviously settled by picking them again.
“I thought Chris (Smalling’s) goal (against Watford) was amazing and Lindelof needs a chance.
“United need to find out about him and yesterday will have been one of the more difficult, physical games for him to combat.”
Neville had previously spoken out about how, now that Jose doesn’t have the centre-back he wanted, he will have to just pick two defenders and stick with them no matter what.
Fans would perhaps prefer an Eric Bailly and Victor pairing but it seems that will have to wait with Chris in fine form.
At least it seems Mourinho is doing that to a degree with his current selection and the hope is it will continue to breed consistent, solid and winning performances.
