Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has sent a message to supporters following the win against Burnley, calling the Old Trafford moment one to remember.
The Portuguese manager led his side to a 2-0 win over the home side to climb up the Premier League table after a disappointing start to the season.
United had lost two of their three opening fixtures but ended things in style ahead of the international break.
At Old Trafford following he 3-0 loss to Tottenham last week, Mourinho stayed behind to applaud the fans who remained for the entirety of the match.
Mourinho was caught being rather emotional on camera, even picking up one of the scarves fans threw to him and taking it with him.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said: “The three points were an important thing, the quality of the performance and happiness of the team is an Old Trafford response – the way Old Trafford reacted to the boys in the Spurs defeat was important.
“The week was so good. I felt so bad leaving out people like Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay – it was heartbreaking to leave them out of the team.
“What Old Trafford did to the team after Spurs was fundamental to the happiness of the team.
“Today the fans were fantastic from the first minute, but Old Trafford is a moment to remember.”
Though some fans believed Mourinho was only doing what he did after the Tottenham match for the sake of winning over the fans, it seems his efforts were genuine.
It wasn’t fake or a bid to buy himself some time and he wore his heart on his sleeve for the first time in quite a while.
Fans responded to that greatly and there’s no doubt they want him to turn things around rather than lose his job.
