Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri spoke out on the condition of Cesc Fabregas prior to the Blues’ impressive win against Bournemouth.
As quoted by Football London, the Italian tactician discussed Fabregas’ recovery and insisted that the injury sustained during the summer is not an especially serious one.
Cesc is still out. Actually, he is working in water. We hope that next week he will be able to work on the pitch, I think. I am sure the injury is not serious, but he has pain out of his knee. So it’s a bit strange, but nothing serious. The pain is still there, so for him, now, it’s impossible to run on the pitch. He’s only able to run in water.
The Spanish midfielder has not featured since the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City last month but it seems he is not far from a return to action, with his knee problem gradually resolving itself.
When Fabregas does become available for selection under Sarri, though, he is sure to have a fight for a starting place on his hands. N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have so far impressed as a trio in the middle, helping Chelsea to a perfect start to the new Premier League season.
Fabregas is currently putting in further work in his rehabilitation at Chelsea’s Cobham training complex during the international break.
