Eric Bailly has grown concerned with his predicament under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to reports.
The Ivorian was ostracised towards the end of the 2017/18 campaign begun this season as Mourinho’s first choice central defender having displayed a fighting attitude during the club’s pre-season tour.
But he has found himself completely sidelined over the last couple of weeks following a horrendous defensive display in the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.
According to the Metro‘s Sean Kearns, although Bailly accepts his performance at Brighton was not good enough, the defender has felt marginalised by Mourinho ever since.
Bailly has reason to be concerned. After all, Mourinho bizarrely started Bailly in only one of the club’s last eight games of the previous campaign, explaining he wanted to give opportunities to players going to the World Cup whilst at the same time starting Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Valencia in every game.
There is a trust issue starting to form here, you suspect. Bailly can be a comprehensive, brutally physical and effective defender. He can also be downright unreliable, and even comically poor at times.
But Mourinho would be wrong to forget about him. United are unquestionably a better team with Bailly firing on all cylinders at the back.
