Paul Pogba has revealed that he was ‘proud’ of Diogo Dalot’s impressive debut for Manchester United.
The Portuguese full-back earned the plaudits for an exciting first match for the Reds after having arrived at Old Trafford with a pre-existing injury from FC Porto.
Though he signed in the summer transfer window, he has been out of action since but finally got off to the perfect start during Man United’s comfortable 3-0 dispatching of Swiss champions Young Boys.
Pogba, who netted twice in that victory while captaining the side, said that he and his other senior United teammates were impressed by Dalot’s performance.
“For a debut he did really well,” Pogba told the club’s official television station, MUTV.
“He suited the team and I’m very happy to see him play like that. All the players were all really proud of him.”
Dalot was hugely enjoyable to watch and it was a relief to see a natural right-back playing in that position for United. Jose Mourinho’s team have seen Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, two now-failed wingers, play at right-back. Matteo Darmian has also played there, but Dalot provided something different.
The 19-year-old is attacking minded and rather than cutting back and passing inside, he takes on his man and goes down the flank before crossing in. That’s refreshing, and hopefully it continues.
