David Moyes’ adamant defence of his qualities as manager despite his failures since leaving Everton has continued.
The Scot replaced Sir Alex Ferguson after his retirement and turned Manchester United from a club focusing on the ‘impossible dream’ to the ‘impossible job’.
Moyes’ tenure was short and very far from sweet, with dull football, poor transfer windows, terrible results and head-shakingly bad quotes to journalists.
Yet Moyes insists that he remains an ‘elite’ manager and stated that he would take the Man United job, which could be considered a poisoned chalice at the time, again.
“Only Sir Alex, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have won more games in the Premier League than me,” Moyes said.
“I’d still consider myself in the elite group of managers. If it was me against someone else I’d trust myself. If I got offered the same today, I would say yes.”
When Moyes was sacked by United, there was very little hard feelings against him from the club’s support. He had done his best, and been handed a difficult hand.
However, since his time at Old Trafford, he has sought to blame others for his own failings and he has had poor spells at Real Sociedad since and mixed tenures at Sunderland and West Ham United.
His quotes smack of the arrogance not benefitting someone who has been sacked in a number of his most recent jobs.
