Fred has expressed his delight at opening his account for Manchester United but stressed the team must improve after drawing with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The midfielder, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52.7m in the summer, became the fifth Brazilian to score a Premier League goal for Man United, firing a powerful low shot into the bottom left hand corner.
He was one of United’s best players on the pitch, manipulating the ball smartly in the middle, and his withdrawal for Juan Mata midway through the second half was met with bemusement from many supporters.
Fred took to social media after the game to express his feelings after a memorable day in his career.
I’m very happy to score the first goal for @ManUtd , but disappointed for the draw as everyone else.
Lets keep working.

There were two positives which came from yesterday: the first, and only truly important one, being Sir Alex Ferguson’s return to his old stomping ground four months after brain surgery; the second was, of course, the performance of Fred.
There were many players on the pitch yesterday who looked out of place, whose role was agonisingly unclear. Fred was not one of them.
He worked well with Paul Pogba and used the ball neatly, picking up good positions and showing an eye for attack.
Make no mistake: there are big problems in this team, both stylistically and in terms of personnel, but Fred showed yesterday that his future is bright.
