Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has revealed that he almost substituted Alexandre Lacazette before the Frenchman scored against Everton (via Arsenal.com).
It was a disappointing match at times on Sunday afternoon as the Gunners struggled to break down a stubborn Everton defence.
The Toffees had more than their fair share of opportunities and the home side were fortunate to still be in the match at the hour mark.
Alexandre Lacazette eventually grabbed the opening goal in the 2-0 victory but now, Gunners head coach Unai Emery has revealed that he the French striker was almost subbed off.
“We needed to change something in this moment to give us another individual quality on the pitch,” Emery said after the match.
“Then we scored the goal and I decided to stop it and think again about who we need next.”
When asked whether Lacazette was the player he would have brought off, Emery hinted that that was the case.
“I don’t think it’s important, but maybe yes! Football is like that.”
It’s a relief that Emery eventually elected to keep Alexandre Lacazette on the pitch. The Frenchman’s goal came at a crucial point for the Gunners in what proved to be an important win.
