Chelsea to open contract talks with star man

Chelsea are keen to tie David Luiz down to a new contract at the club, according to a report from the Mirror.

The Brazilian international looked all but set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window but following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri, it seems he still has a future at Chelsea.

Luiz fell heavily out of favour under previous manager Antonio Conte, as he settled for an uninvolved role for much of the season.

However, Luiz has been a key component of Sarri’s Chelsea side in the opening periods of the Premier League season, helping the Blues soar to the top of the table after their five consecutive wins.

The former PSG star sees his current deal at Chelsea come to its expiration at the end of the ongoing season, meaning that he’ll be able to move on for free in the summer.

Chelsea hope this will not be the case, though, as they prepare to negotiate an extended stay for Luiz in West London.
