Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed why he chose to turn down the chance to move to Chelsea, and commit his future to the Serie A outfit.
According to Football London, the Senegal international renewed his current deal at Stadio San Paolo, with the new contract expiring in 2023.
Chelsea were linked with the strong centre-back throughout the summer transfer window, with reports that the Blues were preparing a stunning bid for him.
The London giants eventually signed Jorginho from Napoli in the summer window, and it was suggested that Maurizio Sarri was keen to bring Koulibaly with him when he was appointed by Chelsea, as well as a potential move for prolific forward Dries Mertens.
However, any sort of move would now appear to be quashed, after the 27-year-old tied himself down to new 5 year deal in Italy.
Speaking about his new deal, Koulibaly said:
I try to be a real person. For me it was very important to repay the trust that everyone has in me.
I had the chance to renew until 2023. I thank everyone, the president, the staff and all the players. The staff has really helped me a lot.
