Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has admitted that he may have to leave the club in the January transfer window because he is not getting enough playing time under manager Maurizio Sarri.
As reported on the Mirror, Cahill has fallen heavily out of favour at Stamford Bridge and wants to be playing regular football as soon as possible.
The Englishman was linked with a loan move away from the London club, with Championship side Aston Villa interested in securing his services.
However, with the Blues also participating in the Europa League this season, Sarri is being cautious and knows that he may need to call upon Cahill when the fixtures begin to come thick and fast.
But Cahill is already eyeing a move and when asked if he could leave in January, he said:
I don’t want to jump the gun but as things stand at this time, probably, yes.
Whatever my future holds, in terms of the club, and the relationship I have with the club and the fans, it will have been a huge part of my footballing life. I’ve got maximum respect for everybody here. I realise that sometimes you have to make tough decisions and football doesn’t wait for people.
Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing. I’m definitely finding it difficult this year.
I haven’t spoken to the manager yet. I think we will speak soon, just to see where everything is and how the land lies. The most important thing here is the team, but I’ve got to look at my situation and my future as well.
Cahill’s current Chelsea contract expires in 2020 and the experienced centre-back looks likely to pursue a move in a few months.
