Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has been left out of the latest Chile squad by manager Reinaldo Rueda due to the club advising him against it.
Many were shocked to hear the talented winger wouldn’t be taking part in the September internationals but he hasn’t been dropped for poor form.
Sanchez was one of United’s key performers in pre-season but has struggled to carry those performances into the season itself.
However, the Chilean also picked up a little knock so that could’ve affected his form and fitness.
Rueda confirms the medical staff at Old Trafford asked for Alexis to remain at the club rather than risk further complications.
According to Manchester Evening News, Reinaldo said to La Tercera: “It’s a recommendation from Manchester United’s medical staff.
“He’s been recovering… the suggestion was that he should not participate in these friendlies. Respecting that and what Alexis feels, we did not take him it into account for this call up.”
Hopefully the time off will do Sanchez well as Manchester United will need him if they are to have a good season.
He’s now had over six months to settle in to his new surroundings as well as a rare summer off.
The break seemed to do him well in the pre-season friendlies but he has to prove himself in the Premier League instead now.
United’s poor start wouldn’t have helped him but it’s fair to say fans haven’t seen him at his best just yet so there’s a need for him to improve.
