Alan Shearer has made a huge claim about Ed Woodward and Jose Mourinho’s relationship and has called on the Manchester United players to rescue their manager from criticism.
The Portuguese boss has been consistently attacked but never more so than in recent weeks due to losses against Brighton and Tottenham.
The criticism began over the summer due to poor pre-season results but also due to the lack of top signings.
Mourinho made it clear Woodward is in charge of signings and it’s since then the relationship appeared fractured.
Shearer believes there’s no doubt over the disintegration of the relationship but has also called for the United stars to shut critics up.
According to the Daily Star, Alan wrote in Coral: “In football you don’t ask for respect, you earn it. When you look at his record at winning trophies, he has earned that.
“But the past is the past. He didn’t win anything last season and they have started off by having two poor games in the new campaign.
“I understand where Jose is coming from but his team have to answer the criticism for him.
“There is no doubt that the relationship between him and Ed Woodward is not great.”
Of course all the reports on Jose and Ed’s relationship are simply speculation and the former has insisted everything is fine.
Then again, the former Real Madrid man wouldn’t exactly outright say he has issues with the board unless he was trying to get sacked himself.
People are simply assuming Mourinho can’t be happy due to how he wanted two more signings after Fred, Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot but was left empty handed.
Whatever is going on behind the scenes has proven an unnecessary distraction to United who now risk their season ending early.
