Michael Owen believes Manchester United will bounce back from a traumatic couple of weeks against Burnley this weekend.
Jose Mourinho and his team have encountered immense scrutiny after consecutive defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, conceding three times in both games.
A defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor will ramp up the pressure even further and even put Mourinho’s position under serious threat.
But Owen, looking ahead to the clash, believes Man United will have enough to overcome Sean Dyche’s team this weekend.
“United have lost two of their first three Premier League games and their 3-0 reverse against Spurs was Jose Mourinho’s biggest ever home defeat in all competitions as a manager,” he said.
“United played well in the first half, but Harry Kane’s wonderful header was the key moment in the game and you sensed the frustration both on and off the field by the final whistle at Old Trafford.
“The Clarets have picked up just three points in their last eight league games and they face a difficult Europa League tie with AEK Athens at Turf Moor on Thursday. I think Sunday promises to be a tight tetchy affair, but I think United can bounce back from their Spurs loss.”
Burnley only have one point so far this season and played out a draining 1-1 draw with Olympiakos on Thursday night, which Mourinho attended.
Key players like Ashley Barnes, Ben Mee, Jeff Hendrick, Aaron Lennon and Sam Vokes all started the game but others, like Jack Cork and James Tarkowski, were rested.
In other words, this is almost the perfect game for United at this point. They will dominate the ball and should be able to take advantage of some tired legs towards the end.
