Petr Cech Reveals How He Felt Saving Two Penalties Against Former Club Chelsea

Petr Cech has revealed how it felt to save two penalties against Chelsea in the 1-1 preseason draw in Dublin (via Arsenal.com).

It must have been pleasing for Petr Cech to play such a major role in the penalty shootout win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Czech stopper was, of course, playing against his former side and capped a fine performance with a couple of penalty stops.

The 36-year-old doesn’t have the best record on penalties at Arsenal but stopped one in the shootout as well as denying Alvaro Morata from the spot during the match.

“I felt confident,” Cech said after the match.

“We’ve been working really hard and really well, so when you are prepared, you feel confident obviously.

“The game didn’t start well for us when we went 1-0 down, but eventually, we improved and in the end from both sides it was a really entertaining and quality game.

Cech took almost three years to save his first penalty for Arsenal but now, the former Chelsea man has stopped three in a matter of months.

“Well, I have to say that first of all I’m glad we came into the penalty shoot-out because we were losing the game until the last minute, so credit to all of us that we managed to dig in and manage to find an equaliser.

“I was very close to the first one which was a bit of a shame because I had my hand to it and it hit my head and I thought it was going to go wide, but it went in.

“But in the end, our boys managed to keep their nerves and we managed to win. It’s always good for the confidence before the season starts.”

Petr Cech was probably Arsenal’s best player yesterday. The 36-year-old looks in good shape and has played well in preseason. If this continues, his place as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper may not be over just yet.
