Manchester United are prepared to accept a €33m offer from Everton for Marcos Rojo this week, according to reports from Argentina.
The defender was limited to just 12 appearances in all competitions last season amid a continued stream of injuries.
Rojo looks set to be sold off by Jose Mourinho in order to make way for a new signing at central defence, with Toby Alderweireld and Yerry Mina the two primary options for Man United.
And according to Argentinian media outlet Ole, the sum of €33m proposed by Everton has been accepted by United, who signed Rojo in 2014 for €20m.
The only stumbling block remaining is Rojo’s considerable salary – thought to be around £160,000-a-week – which Everton would struggle to match. This is a problem considering the United defender, according to the report, wants a pay rise if he departs Old Trafford.
That said, with Mourinho set on signing a new defender and Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all ahead of him in the pecking order, Rojo will know that finding a new club – even if that means taking a pay cut – is the best thing for reigniting his career following a frustrating year in Manchester.
