Manchester United star Ander Herrera‘s future at the club has been cleared up as he’s set to be given a contract extension.
The Spaniard was originally brought into Old Trafford by Louis van Gaal but actually experienced his best season under Jose Mourinho’s management.
In that campaign, Herrera was tasked with being the sitting midfielder alongside Paul Pogba in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
However, the next season saw Nemanja Matic arrive and the former Atletico Bilbao man’s starting appearances reduced.
With Fred’s arrival this summer, many think the 29 year old is even more dispensable but recent reports suggest otherwise.
According to the Daily Mail, the Sun report Ander will be handed a two year deal with negotiations starting in the upcoming international break as his contract runs out next summer.
The Red Devils may be attempting to simply hold onto the value of the player instead of losing him for free but it’s more likely Jose deems him good enough as a squad player.
The Portuguese boss has an abundance in back-up players with the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira as options as well.
Only time will tell whether Herrera still has a future at the club but it does not look good at the moment.
