Lucas Torreira has revealed the real reason why he took Arsenal’s number 11 shirt after signing for the club (via Football.London).
He has been the summer signing which Arsenal fans have been most excited about following Lucas Torreira’s showing at the World Cup.
The 22-year-old midfielder signed for the Gunners back in early July but joined up with his teammates earlier this week following his summer break.
He was pictured wearing the number 11 shirt, a strange choice for a defensive midfielder but now, the former Sampdoria man has revealed the real reason why he took it.
“I wanted to choose the 34, Torreira admitted to Sport890.
“But it was already taken by [Granit] Xhaka, so I chose 11 because it is my birthday and I will have the opportunity to sit next to [Mesut] Ozil in the locker room.
“My place is next to Mesut. It’s amazing, a player who was world champion and had a great career.”
So, it seems as if Lucas Torreira took the number 11 shirt because wanted to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the dressing room. Let’s hope the two can strike up a good partnership on the pitch ahead of the coming season.
