Jose Mourinho worries Man United fans over signings warning

Jose Mourinho has worried Manchester United supporters by admitting that the club need to be braced for a “difficult” season ahead of no more signings are made this summer.

The summer transfer window slams shut at 5pm on Thursday, the day before Man United kick the 2018-19 Premier League campaign off against Leicester City at Old Trafford, but there are still areas needing to be addressed.

Mourinho has prioritised the arrival of a new central defender ahead of the new campaign, but no reinforcements have been acquired with just over four days of the transfer period remaining.

Speaking to MUTV before United’s final pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Sunday evening, Mourinho admitted his worries about the strength of the club’s top-flight competition this term.

“Other clubs that compete with us are really strong, they have fantastic squads, Tottenham, Chelsea, City or they’re investing massively like Liverpool who are buying everything and everybody,” he claimed.

“If we don’t make our team better it’ll be a difficult season.”

United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred to fill the void left by the retired Michael Carrick, while young Porto right-back Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant have also arrived as first-team back-up.

That being said, the squad hasn’t really been upgraded that much which is a major worry, considering Mourinho has been keen to bring in a centre-back, left-back and right winger this summer.

All three of them certainly won’t be happening, but United fans and the manager will be praying that at least one will pull through and get over the line before the new campaign gets underway.
