With Jose Mourinho’s pre-match press conference scheduled before the 2018-19 Champions League Group Stage draw, questions regarding European football were always inevitable.
Mourinho has won both the Europa League and Champions League to add to his array of managerial achievements and the most recent triumph was in his debut season as Manchester United manager.
It’s an achievement he’s obviously very proud of and he brought it up with the media whilst underlining his prestige as a football manager on Friday afternoon.
“Two seasons ago we had a fantastic season because we won the Europa League. We won it because it was our level. We are the last team in England to win a European competition.”
Man United found out who they were facing in this season’s Champions League Group Stage shortly after Mourinho’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s visit to Burnley, and the draw has been tough on them this year.
Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Old Trafford with Juventus, who are joined by dangerous La Liga side Valencia and Swiss outfit BSC Young Boys in Group H which leaves United with a tough task to avoid dropping into Europe’s secondary competition once more.
The club will certainly be looking to improve on last season’s catastrophic Round of 16 exit to the hands of Sevilla, but a huge challenge lies ahead if they are to do so.
