Andreas Pereira reacts to impressive pre-season tour with Man United

Andreas Pereira has voiced his delight following a hugely successful pre-season tour with Manchester United.

The Brazilian has spent the last two campaigns on loan in La Liga and made clear ahead of the summer his ambition to impose himself on Jose Mourinho’s first team over pre-season.

And with so many big names absent he did exactly that, producing a series of composed and controlled performances in the No.6 role, scoring a memorable free-kick against Liverpool in Michigan last weekend.

Speaking to MUTV after Man United’s win over Real Madrid in Miami, Pereira enthused about the opportunities handed to him over pre-season.

“The tour has been great for me and I’m very happy,” he said.

“I’m thankful that Mr Mourinho gave me these opportunities to show what I can do by letting me play so much in these games. I just want to continue showing him and the staff that I can play here at United.

“I’m also happy with the team here and we’re getting better every game. OK, we lost against Liverpool, but pre-season is about getting our fitness, getting to know new players and making sure we’re as well prepared as possible for when the season starts.”

“United now have a better player because I went to Valencia. I played more minutes than I would have played at United. At Valencia I was playing a high level every week and I improved a lot. I was under pressure in a good way, I played in a team which played very good football with an explosive counter attack.”

Pereira started five games under Mourinho in the space of about two weeks and impressed in each one. Against Club America, AC Milan and in the first half against Liverpool he was the best player on the pitch along with Alexis Sanchez.

This is Pereira’s last chance to make it at Old Trafford, and he knows that. This summer was his best chance to finally make the starting XI for United and he has done that through a mixture of cool execution and admirable temperament. He deserves to play against Leicester City.
