Allardyce was aware of the Red Devils’ hunt for a new centre-back and had plenty to say ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.
According to Manchester Evening News, Sam said to Sky Sports: “In the end, if United have not got a defender through the door, that will be because negotiations have broken down, however hard they have tried.
“Whether they have tried to get what Jose wants, or whether they have tried enough, is another matter.”
Fans have been disappointed in the owner’s apparent refusal to seriously back their manager as Mourinho had made it clear how many players he wanted to bring in.
As time went on the Portuguese settled for two signings and then claimed he’s expecting only one more player to be bought.
However, the transfer window has ended and the Red Devils didn’t bring in a single extra player to the aforementioned names.
Jose is now forced to somehow challenge for the title with almost the same squad as last season while his rivals have all strengthened considerably.
