Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the club are interested in signing Manchester United star Matteo Darmian.
It’s no secret the Italian has wanted out of Old Trafford for some time now and it appears the hold up is a transfer fee issue.
It seems whichever clubs are interested in Darmian value him differently to what United do and as such they can’t come to an agreement.
Nonetheless, the full-back is still expected to depart this summer and it would appear it’s only a matter of time not a question of ‘if’.
De Laurentiis though has spiced up the conversation by confirming his interest in signing Matteo, potentially speeding up any negotiations.
According to Manchester Evening News, Aurelio said to Radio Kiss Kiss: “Matteo Darmian on loan with an option to buy? True!
“I told you were were looking at six profiles, Henrichs of Bayer is also a possibility. We’ll see what happens.”
So far reports have linked the versatile defender with moves to Juventus, Inter and AC Milan as well as Napoli.
It’s a little strange none of these clubs have been able to secure a transfer for him unless the Red Devils are asking for an outrageous fee which is a little unlikely.
It’s understood that the hierarchy at Old Trafford are sick of buying expensive and selling cheap and so they’re attempting to fix that this summer.
Whether it’s a tactic that will backfire or not is yet to be seen but it’s clear Darmian has no place in this Manchester United squad.
