Manchester United have been handed a boost in their race to sign Chelsea star Willian as Barcelona have, reportedly, pulled out of the chase.
The Brazilian has been a target of Jose Mourinho’s for a few months now and has even been flirting with the possibility of the move actually happening.
United were said to be interested in signing a right-winger due to their shortage in the position despite Alexis Sanchez joining the club in the January transfer window.
Willian represents the perfect addition given how he’s worked with Mourinho before and given how only Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard can play there, though uncomfortably.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk man could potentially join his international teammate Fred who just completed his own transfer earlier this summer.
According to Metro, Sport report that Barcelona are not interested in signing Willian even though they’re admirers due to being overstocked in that position.
It could be argued that the Red Devils themselves are overstocked in their attack which is possibly why Jose already stated his happiness with his attackers.
The Portuguese manager insisted he wants to focus on his midfield and defence and so it may be that Willian won’t come to Old Trafford after all.
