Luke Shaw plans to fight for his place in Manchester United’s starting XI next season and won’t opt for a move away from Old Trafford, according to reports.
The 22-year-old had to wait until December for his first start of the season and suffered public criticism from Jose Mourinho following his performance against Brighton and Hove Albion in March.
He has spent the last week putting in the hard yards with Gary Walker, Man United’s head of strength and conditioning, at the Nad Al Sheba Complex in Dubai in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees celsius.
And according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, Shaw is determined to battle for his place under Mourinho over the 2018/19 campaign.
You have to admire Shaw’s desire to make it at Old Trafford but, as he enters his fifth season at United, very few supporters are hopeful of seeing him blossom into the player they hoped he would be all the way back in 2014.
But it is important to remember he is just 22. The road ahead is still very long. Pre-season starts next Monday, with United yet to make any signings at left-back and Ashley Young set to return late due to World Cup duties. Shaw undoubtedly has a big chance to impress Mourinho.
