Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down a proposal from his scouts to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ante Rebic as an answer to the gap he wants to fill on the right wing.
The Manchester United manager told chief executive Ed Woodward that he wants a new right winger for the 2018-19 season, but it seems like any attacking arrival depends on the sale of wantaway 22-year-old Anthony Martial.
Chelsea’s Willian, Internazionale’s Ivan Perisic and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale are said to be Mourinho’s top three targets in the position, but a new name has entered the fray following the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer.
Duncan Castles has told The Sunday People that following his exploits at the tournament, helping Croatia reach the final, Rebic has caught the eye of Man United’s scouts.
However, Mourinho doesn’t seem to be that keen on the idea of signing the 24-year-old.
Castles claims the boss has turned down his scouts’ proposal and wants to focus on his other targets, but with just two weeks left of what has been a frustrating transfer window, it doesn’t look like he’ll be bolstering his attack further.
Mourinho has even admitted himself he believes just one more signing will arrive ahead of the 2018-19 season – thought to be a centre-back – so any developments would be a surprise.
