Bernd Leno has revealed that he actually made his first-team debut against current Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech (via Arsenal.com).
Arsenal are blessed with a number of different options in goals right now but it appears as if a couple of the members have a history.
Petr Cech will presumably act as something of a mentor for Bernd Leno but it seems that the two have a history on the same pitch.
“I can remember my first game, when I was 19, in the Champions League and it was against Petr and Chelsea in 2011,” Leno told Arsenal.com.
“After the game, he said to me that it was a good game for me and he was pleased for me and excited for me. It was seven years ago and now we are together at Arsenal – it’s crazy!
“Of course Petr has a lot of experience and played many games. I have a lot of experience too, but he has much more, so I can learn from him.
“Petr has had a big career, he’s won many trophies and is still a big goalkeeper and a big personality. But I have to look at myself, and work hard every day to be the first choice of the coach.”
Bernd Leno will surely be the number one goalkeeper next season but Petr Cech will still have a major role in the squad. He is the most experienced player at Arsenal after winning almost everything as a player and will hopefully act as a good role model for Leno.
