David Beckham dedicated a video to his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Father’s Day, hailing the boss for serving as a crucial father figure to him.
The Englishman was snapped up by Sir Alex at the age of 16 back in 1991 and made his debut for the first team a year later.
He went on to make 394 club appearances, netting 85 goals, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League, becoming one of the most recognisable footballers of the modern era in the process.
And Beckham, as seen by this video, has always put that success and notoriety down to the lessons dispensed by Sir Alex, despite an unfortunate incident with a boot
Beckham: “This is a picture of me and the boss, Sir Alex Ferguson. He was always a father figure to me, and one of the reasons why i wanted to play for United was because of the way he was towards me and the other kids as well.” #FathersDay #mufc [Ig] pic.twitter.com/aaG1AscQAW

The likes of Beckham, along with other former players like Patrice Evra and Cristiano Ronaldo and Owen Hargreaves, all went on to play under other managers after Sir Alex and United.
But if you put it to them who The Boss was to them – the primary and overarching figure of influence in their footballing lives – they would all give you the same answer, such was Ferguson’s ability to get through to you as a person and player in equal measure.
That is why Evra, sat in the Old Trafford changing room for Michael Carrick‘s testimonial last year, referred to the gaffer as ‘Boss’, despite having not played under him for five years. No manager can claim to have such an entrenched effect on so many great players.
