Jesse Lingard was in typically good spirits during his day off following England’s win over Tunisia on Monday night.
The 25-year-old was a live wire streaming forward during the opening stages and, with better finishing from himself and Raheem Sterling, could have easily claimed a hat-trick and an assist before half time.
He will nonetheless be proud of making his World Cup debut and can be confident of causing further damage against Panama on Sunday.
Lingard took to social media to show he was enjoying a slightly more relaxed day, spending some time on the pool and acting as Ashley Young‘s photographer.

History has given us a variety of unforgettable World Cup photos: Bobby Moore being held aloft as he holds the World Cup, Gazza’s tears, Baggio’s missed penalty, Pele celebrating in the 1970 World Cup final, Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’, Maradona’s eyes in 1994, Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt, that Andres Iniesta goal. The list goes on.
And I just hope – nay, pray – that the image of Jesse Lingard riding an inflatable unicorn becomes part of that famous tapestry once England brings the World Cup home next month.
