Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has confirmed that Arsenal target Lucas Torreira has left the club (via Sky Sports).
It’s been a busy 24 hours for Arsenal in the transfer market after the departure of Jack Wilshere and the arrival of Bernd Leno.
We reported several weeks ago that the transfer of Sokratis Papastathopoulos is just awaiting official confirmation and it seems as if that is not the only deal.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira for some time and now, the deal has been effectively confirmed.
“Torreira left for 30m Euro,” said the Sampdoria’s club president Massimo Ferrero.
“I bought him from Pescara when no one believed in him. We placed a bet and we won, paying just 3m Euro.
“La Samp does not sell unless there are excellent offers. We do not look for buyers. We have natural talents whose value increases exponentially.”
So, the club’s president has confirmed that Lucas Torreira has been sold for €30 million. We reported last week that the two clubs had agreed on a price of €30 million, €5 million more than the player’s reported release clause. Presumably, the clubs are waiting for the conclusion of Uruguay’s World Cup campaign before finalising the deal.
