Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini has labelled his teammate Jesse Lingard an intelligent player before the two clashed for their respective countries.
The Englishman has been crucial for his nation so far in the World Cup, providing more than just playmaking ability by also getting his name on the scoresheet.
Lingard has gone from strength to strength for club and country this past season going from a relative outsider to a regular first team player.
Fellaini has recognised that development and improvement, lauding his United teammate for the same attributes many managers before have also praised.
Jesse is expected return to England’s starting line-up for the match in the round of 16 of the World Cup and fans will certainly be hoping he can keep up his good form.
According to Sports Mole, Marouane said to the Mirror: “He’s a very clever player on the pitch — and we saw that against Panama. He’s done well for the past few years, that’s why he plays for Manchester United, and he has to continue like that.
“His technical ability is good and on the pitch his positioning is clever, so we’ll have to be careful of him. He’s a great person, a great character, and he loves to laugh and joke, which I think is also important in the group.”
Fellaini has found himself in a bit of a tough spot with club supporters after he’s delayed contract negotiations only for it to be revealed he will extend soon.
Some of the Red Devils’ fan base believe the midfielder doesn’t deserve a new contract as he’s not got enough quality to truly become an important player.
Nonetheless, should Marouane sign as reports claim he will, it would save Jose Mourinho the trouble of finding another central midfielder to bring in.
