Roman Shirokov has revealed that he believes Chelsea are the favourites to secure the signature of his former CSKA Moscow teammate Aleksandr Golovin, according to a report on Sport Witness.
Golovin has been in sensational form so far at the World Cup, helping Russia to qualify for the first knockout round by scoring once and assisting twice in two matches.
Before the tournament, Serie A champions Juventus were keeping a close eye on his situation but after his brilliant performances during the group stage, many other teams are keen to sign him, including Chelsea.
Shirokov seems to have a good relationship with Golovin and when speaking about the 22-year-old’s situation, he told Gazzetta dello Sport:
I know there’s been contact between the player and Juventus, but we’ll have to see what CSKA think of it. There’s no deadline for Golovin, and the CSKA president knows how to manage the market, both for arrivals and departures.
With this World Cup, Golovin’s value is increasing, and there could be a real auction for him. In this case, I see the English teams as favourites, especially Chelsea.
None of the sides have made a formal approach to CSKA Moscow about signing Golovin but the Russian side are bracing themselves for a flurry of bids for the creative midfielder.
