Pogba claims Man Utd target is much more talented than him

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has claimed that PSG and France hero Kylian Mbappe is much more talented than him in rather surprising comments.

The statement was made in the wake of his country’s 4-3 win over Argentina in the Round of 16 stage of the World Cup in which the teenager scored a brace.

Pogba is widely considered to be amongst the best players on the planet himself but he clearly rates his national teammate as better than him.

Of course what Mbappe is doing on the international stage is exceptional but some may say he has some way to go still to become a top player.

Either way, both stars will be hoping they can continue France’s run in the World Cup and perhaps even reach the final though they’ll have to be Uruguay next before thinking of that.

According to Metro, Paul said: “Kylian has much more talent than I have. Do you see what he is doing at his age? No, I never had his talent.

“He has so much speed… he’s a forward, he can’t be compared with me.”

Kylian has been rather bizarrely linked with a move to United despite performing superbly for PSG and having just joined them last summer as well.

Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward are said to want the youngster to be their ‘galactico’ signing of the summer having not brought in anyone of that mould.

The Red Devils have signed full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred so far in a relatively quiet transfer window.

Sanchez reveals who he hopes will win the Golden Boot

Alexis Sanchez has backed his Manchester United team-mate Romelu Lukaku to win the Golden Boot award in the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

The Belgian is in fine form so far scoring four goals in two matches and will feel more confident now that Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo are out of the competition.

Unfortunately for Sanchez, Chile didn’t qualify for the tournament though it certainly makes Jose Mourinho happy that one of his stars can rest instead.

Lukaku and Belgium though look like they’re just getting started and if they go all the way then it’s pretty likely that he would win the sought after award.

Labeled as the World Cup’s dark horses, they’ll definitely need their star striker to keep up his performances if they wish to win football’s greatest trophy.

Alexis and Romelu’s off field relationship isn’t a secret one with the pair of them constantly being seen together on social media or otherwise.

United fans will certainly be hoping that could translate into a greater on field relationship next season in their chase to become Premier League champions.

Both stars will have to be in tip top shape if they’re going to steal the crown away from Pep Guardiola’s record breaking Manchester City side.

Drogba lauds Man Utd star after France win

Former Chelsea star Didier Drogba has lauded Paul Pogba following his display for France against Argentina in the Round of 16 stage of the World Cup.

The European nation managed to win 4-3 in one of the matches of the tournament and it’s no surprises that it was Manchester United star who proved to be one of the best on the field that day.

Pogba’s performance drew the praise of many as he played a crucial part in his team’s win that will see them face Uruguay in the quarter finals next.

France’s bid for international glory appears to be a difficult one but if the former Juventus man is in form, they may just have a chance.

Drogba was impressed with how Paul played but was even more impressed with the characteristics he showed during the clash of the giants.

There have been shouts from some United fans for the talented midfielder to become the club’s next captain following Michael Carrick‘s retirement.

After all, it was Jose Mourinho’s plan to build his team around Pogba and he has already been captained on occasion during the last season.

The Red Devils are a different side when the Frenchman is in the starting XI and he could certainly prove the difference in the title race next campaign.

Fellaini explains how Lukaku and Kane are different

Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini has revealed just how Romelu Lukaku is different to England striker Harry Kane, claiming the former gives more towards team play.

The Belgian has been in fine form for club and country this season and is currently attempting to lead his nation to glory, grabbing four goals in two matches so far.

Fellaini has been involved in the World Cup so far as well and should know Lukaku better than most considering they play together for both sides.

United fans will certainly be hoping the striker can carry his form into the start of the next Premier League season but there’ll also be hope he can return as a World Cup winner.

Belgium are the competition’s dark horses and will face Japan next in the round of 16 in their race towards a possible run to the final.

According to the Mirror, Marouane said: “Everyone is talking about the goals Romelu and Harry Kane have scored in Russia and they have both made a great start.

“With Kane England have a striker who can score goals at the top level and we have all seen already at this tournament what he can do. Lets see who can score the most!

“We have Romelu and he is in great form too scoring goals and getting better. He is like Kane – he wants to score goals every time he goes on the pitch.

“But he also helps the team with the way he plays just like at United. He gives everything for the team. He always puts the team first.”

Romelu’s link-up play was criticised when he first joined Manchester United but he’s since come leaps and bounds, making sure he’s always involved in the attack.

He does however still have the tendency to occasionally isolate himself as the striker as called on by Eden Hazard but it’s a part of his game that is disappearing more and more.

Valencia opens up on how he joined Man Utd

Manchester United star Antonio Valencia has opened up on how he first came to the club, stating he couldn’t believe there was genuine interest in him.

The Ecuadorian was signed from then Premier League side Wigan and immediately impressed, forming an almost telepathic relationship with Wayne Rooney.

Back then Valencia was a winger but has managed to stay at United for so long by transforming himself into a full-back who was labeled the best in the league by Jose Mourinho.

The defender is one of the few remaining players from Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, especially with Michael Carrick retiring and so Porto’s Diogo Dalot has been brought in this summer.

Reflecting on how he first came to Old Trafford back in 2009, the former Villareal man explains how he was stunned to learn of the Red Devils’ interest.

According to the club’s official website, Antonio said: “I was on holiday when I heard that United were interested in me. My agent told me we had to travel over here because they wanted to speak with me and I couldn’t believe it.

“I can remember calling my mum and dad, we had a chat and they were delighted. They are moments that you are never going to forget. I think that as a young lad, I was so keen and so excited to play for the club, I didn’t even look at the figures or anything.

“The only thing I wanted to do was put on the United shirt and play for the team, so the negotiations did not last very long. I remember being in Ecuador and being really nervous.

“It was Manchester, and I had to make sure I was good enough to be at United. I had to make sure I was fit and well prepared. When I arrived I was nervous, but I was with friends who loved me and rated my ability, and who told me to relax and that everything would turn out well.”

Before turning himself into a full-back Valencia’s career at Manchester United certainly looked at threat since he was hardly getting any game time.

Though he undoubtedly still had the place necessary to play as a winger, he looked a shadow of himself as the club’s style of football changed.

Perhaps more was required of a winger in modern football than what Antonio could offer but he’s since adapted to a capable right-back.

Sanchez reveals which country he hopes will win the World Cup

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he hopes Belgium will go on to win the World Cup as the biggest competition in football starts to heat up.

The round of 16 stage has begun with Portugal vs Uruguay and France vs Argentina having already played and Belgium facing Japan in their next clash.

Unfortunately Sanchez’s Chile didn’t qualify for the World Cup and so he’s had to watch from the sidelines though there’s no doubting that Jose Mourinho is pleased with that.

The Portuguese manager would perhaps prefer if none of his players were called up for the competition as he’s already discussed his desire for them to get a proper holiday full of rest and recovery ahead of the next Premier League season.

Alexis is one of United’s stars who haven’t been involved along with others such as Chris Smalling or Antonio Valencia but he has revealed just why he’s backing Romelu Lukaku’s Belgium.

Since the former Arsenal man arrived at Old Trafford in the January transfer window he’s been constantly spotted alongside the Belgian star, especially on social media.

Hopefully their relationship off the field will influence their relationship on the field as the Red Devils will need both these stars in fine form if they want to win the title.

Maradona has his say De Gea's Spain criticism

Argetina legend Diego Maradona has backed David de Gea to finish his World Cup campaign in finer form than he began it after the criticism he’s received from the Spanish media and fans too.

The goalkeeper has looked a shell of himself for his nation than the usual confident, super-human self he normally is for Manchester United.

De Gea made an error that led to a goal in the warm up friendlies to the competition but more costly was his mistake that saw him concede against Portugal from a tame shot from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Atletico Madrid man is widely regarded as the best in the world in his position but his shaky performances have bizarrely seen him voted to be dropped.

Maradona though believes it’s impossible to doubt David’s ability and hopes he’ll improve throughout the competition to see him get the plaudits he deserves.

According to Sport Witness, Diego said: “Yes, I like him [De Gea] a lot, although he’s let in a couple of goals. We all saw that, I’m not discovering it.

“But since I’ve seen him at United, he has had a very good career without ups and downs. He stepped into the World Cup on a bad foot, but I hope that he finishes it better, because he deserves it.

“He’s a guy I met with Kun when Aguero wat at Atletico. You have to give him time in this World Cup.”

There’s been a lot of talk about Real Madrid chasing De Gea’s signature once more this summer but there have been suggestions one of the reasons he’s staying at United is due to the criticism he receives from his country.

If true then the Red Devils’ fan base will be absolutely delight because there’s no one who supports the Spaniard more than they do.

Roberto Martinez provides Romelu Lukaku injury update

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed Romelu Lukaku is “100 percent” fit to face Japan on Monday night.

The Manchester United forward enjoyed an explosive start to the World Cup, scoring braces in wins over Panama and Tunisia.

He picked up an ankle injury against the latter, however, and was rested for the 1-0 win over England as a result.

But Martinez has made it clear that Lukaku will be featuring against Japan in Rostov as Belgium look to book a quarter final spot against either Brazil or Mexico.

“He trained today and has no problems,” he said. “He’ll be available (to face Japan), 100 percent.”

Lukaku has taken this World Cup by storm. Even when he wasn’t playing against England he was standing in the middle of the Belgium huddle ahead of the game, giving his teammates instructions and motivation, speaking with authority and with passion like the side’s de facto captain.

It is easy to forget he is just 25, such is the maturity with which he conducts himself and expectation he puts on his shoulders. He may be a natural goalscorer, an excellent hold up play technician, a supreme motivator and physical presence – but his greatest tool is without doubt his mind.

From France: Manchester United launch surprise bid for Lyon superstar

Manchester United have made a surprise offer for Lyon forward Nabil Fekir, according to reports from France.

Jose Mourinho has previously expressed interest in signing the France forward, who claimed 23 goals and eight assists in an impressive 2017/18 season for Lyon.

He appeared to be on the verge of moving to Anfield earlier this month only for the French side to end negotiations when Liverpool, citing Fekir’s non-existent knee cartilage problems, tried to lower the price they would pay by €5m.

And according to French media outlet Le Progrè (via Sport Witness), Man United have taken advantage of negotiations breaking down with Liverpool – who even had an interview set up for the signing, which is absolutely vintage Liverpool – and made an offer of their own for Fekir.

This story is subtly wedged into a piece about midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, another player linked with an Old Trafford move, which is indeed strange.

Targeting Fekir – an attacking midfielder – would make very little sense given United’s wealth of options in that area already. Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Fred, and even Marouane Fellaini can play in that role. An actual attempt to sign Fekir, therefore, would be nothing short of nonsensical.

Chelsea line up move to replace Courtois

Chelsea are preparing an offer for Roma goalkeeper Alisson as they anticipate losing Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid this summer.

Brazil’s first-choice ‘keeper and Roma’s star man last season Alisson has attracted a number of prospective buyers this summer, with Liverpool and Real Madrid the two to most heavily be linked with a move.

Madrid have been linked with a move for Courtois before he was even established as Chelsea’s first-choice between the sticks, and according to MailOnline, they are turning their attention back to the big Belgian.

Maddie Meyer/Getty Images Sport

Courtois has just one year remaining on his current deal with the Stamford Bridge club, and he has made no secret that he would be open to a move back to Spain to be with his young family.

Speaking to Belgian media, Courtois said:

I have a certain preference, I already have ideas in my head, but I have moved everything until after the World Cup.

My children are the most important thing for me: I now have one and a half years less contact with Chelsea, FaceTime is beautiful, but seeing them grow up is something else, so my children will play an important role in my decision.

Chelsea would demand around £50million for Courtois, which would become a British record fee for a goalkeeper.

Chelsea have made enquiries for Stoke’s Jack Butland to replace the Belgian, but now they believe Alisson is a realistic target, they’re stepping up their interest.

David de Gea reiterates commitment to Manchester United on social media

David de Gea has reiterated his commitment to the cause at Manchester United, noting he was “proud to be part of this great family.”

The Spaniard has enjoyed his finest season yet at Old Trafford, winning the ‘Golden Glove’ award alongside being voted as the club’s ‘Player of the Season’ for the fourth time in five years.

He has not enjoyed the same success with Spain, however, making errors in all three group games and suffering immense criticism back home for his performances, with some even calling for him to be dropped.

Seven years to the day since signing for Man United, De Gea reiterated his love for the club amid the torrent of abuse being sent his way from Spain.

De Gea was literally moments away from becoming a Real Madrid player in 2015. A series of hilarious documentation issues eventually stopped the move from going through, and since then he hasn’t looked back.

The love from supporters he has received since has been unwavering and powerful – the kind of adulation reserved for the very best who step onto the Old Trafford turf. United fans know a top player when they see one.

And as De Gea has found himself pilloried by his own national press with growing intensity during this World Cup, he may end up feeling as if the chaos of that night in 2015 – where his dream of playing for the best club in the world was crushed – happened for the better in the end.

Manchester United to commence bidding war for Willian after Barcelona have £50m bid rejected – report

Chelsea expect Manchester United to commence a bidding war for Willian this summer after Barcelona had a £50m bid for the Brazilian rejected earlier this week, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho brought Willian to Chelsea back in 2013 and the club reportedly made inquiries over his availability back in May.

Interest in Willian comes off the back of Anthony Martial‘s probable departure this summer after being frozen out of the starting XI since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival.

And according to the Express‘ Tony Banks, Man United look set to launch a bid of their own after Barcelona had a £50m bid for Willian turned down by Chelsea.

Whether United will sign another attacking player this summer remains to be seen. The priority at this moment in time certainly lies elsewhere: namely with securing a left-back and a young, energetic midfielder, although that possibility of acquiring the latter has been reduced by Maroaune Fellaini’s recent decision to stay at the club.

Mourinho also wants another centre back and will, just like last summer, jump at the opportunity to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid if the winger chooses to leave the Bernabeu in the summer, which would be a considerably better option for filling that vacant spot on the right hand side.

Man United fans react to Pogba's performance vs Argentina

Manchester United fans were absolutely delighted with Paul Pogba’s performance for France vs Argentina in the round of 16 stage of the World Cup.

The European nation managed to eventually win the crazily back and forth clash 4-3 in one of the best matches of the competition so far.

The United star was in fine form as well, proving to be in the centre of everything that went well for France and was only bettered by Kylian Mbappe’s brace stealing the limelight.

Pogba will now compete in the quarter finals of the World Cup and could come up against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal should they beat Uruguay later today.

The Red Devils’ fanbase though have been keenly watching their stars perform throughout the tournament and are clearly impressed with how the Frenchman got on.

There’s no doubt supporters will be hoping Paul can continue his good performances from the World Cup and carry it into next season under Jose Mourinho.

It will be the pair’s third season at Manchester United and there’s certainly pressure on them both to deliver in their own specific ways.

Pogba will hopefully be given more freedom to shine with the arrival of Fred who should partner him and Nemanja Matic in a three man midfield.

Sarri plans mega double swoop once he becomes Blues boss

Maurizio Sarri is planning on making a mega double swoop on Juventus for Daniele Rugani and Gonzalo Higuain – if he is appointed as Chelsea manager.

In the most drawn out saga of the summer so far, Chelsea are still yet to make a firm committal to either current boss Antonio Conte or prospective coach Sarri, but many still believe the former Napoli boss with be leading the Blues next season.

According to Italian outlet II Corriere della Serareports, as cited by Calciomercato, Sarri is planning a massive double swoop once he is announced as new Chelsea boss.

Marco Luzzani/Getty Images Sport

Sarri will look to bring in Italian centre half Rugani and Argentine striker Higuain for a combined total of €100million (valued at €40million and €60million respectively).

Àlvaro Morata could also be included in the deal, with Juventus reportedly keen on re-signing their former striker.

Man United target defends David de Gea following mass World Cup criticism

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has leaped to the defence of Spain team-mate David de Gea following a shaky start to the 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia this summer.

Spain managed to top Group B with just five points after playing out a thrilling 3-3 stalemate with Portugal, narrowly beating Iran 1-0 and coming back from behind twice to draw 2-2 against Morocco.

De Gea fumbled a Cristiano Ronaldo strike in the opener which saw his nation drop two points though, and conceding two against bottom country Morocco didn’t help mass criticism he was receiving from his own supporters die down.

However, Thiago has come out and publicly defended the Spanish no. 1 as well as reminding the media how talented he actually is in between the sticks for club and country, on and off the pitch.

“If you have seen the matches of David de Gea at Manchester United you can see that he is a porterazo [magnificent goalkeeper]. To criticise, you have to see everything, including how he works in training like an animal.”

Despite the criticism De Gea has been on the end of, manager Fernando Hierro has confirmed he’ll start with the Manchester United man in Spain’s round of 16 clash against hosts Russia on Sunday.

Hopefully we’ll see the best of the world-class ‘keeper ahead of the 2018-19 season, where he’ll once again be expected to make an impact at Old Trafford.<--Article End-->

Agent Insists Player Could Get New Arsenal Contract Despite Club Claiming He Was Released

Calum Chambers Signs New Four-Year Deal With Arsenal

The BBC’s David Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal’s 23-year-old centre-back Calum Chambers has signed a new contract.

Calum Chambers has put an end to any speculation linking him with an exit from Arsenal after reportedly signing a new contract.

Not many Arsenal fans would have expected to see this news in a transfer window in which many had expected to see Chambers leave the club.

The 23-year-old came close to joining Crystal Palace last summer and after failing to really hold down a starting spot last season, many expected it to be his last at the club.

But that is not the case with head coach Unai Emery reportedly keen on allowing Chambers to challenge for a starting spot in the coming season.

Chambers will compete with Rob Holding, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Shkodran Mustafi and, presumably, Sokratis Papastathopoulos too.

It could prove to be a shrewd decision to keep hold of Calum Chambers. The Englishman has shown signs of becoming an excellent centre-back in the four years since his move from Southampton.

Chelsea identify their backup plan if they cannot sign Alisson

Chelsea will reportedly target AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma if they cannot sign Alisson from Roma this summer.

Thibaut Courtois’ future at Stamford Bridge is said to be in doubt, with Real Madrid keen to recruit the Belgian international to replace Keylor Navas ahead of next season.

This would mean that Chelsea will be forced into the acquisition of a new goalkeeper, with Alisson understood to be the club’s prime target.

Maddie Meyer/Getty Images Sport

According to claims from Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, as cited by Calciomercato, though, Roma have turned down Chelsea’s initial proposal worth €60 million for the goalkeeper.

This has reportedly led Chelsea to make contingency plans in case they are priced out of a move for Alisson, with AC Milan’s promising goalkeeper Donnarumma the man in question.

It’s claimed by Italian sources that Donnarumma is likely to cost Chelsea a similar figure to what was rejected by Roma for Alisson, as the Blues look to plan for Courtois’ apparent departure.

Chelsea's deal to sign £27m midfielder means they're set to snub Ligue 1 star

Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a deal for OGC Nice star Jean Seri if they are able to secure the signing of Aleksandr Golovin this summer, according to claims from the Telegraph.

The Blues are deep in negotiations with CSKA Moscow as they look to land Russian international Golovin in a deal believed to be worth £27m.

Chelsea want to strengthen their depth in midfield this summer and had been linked with a move for Seri, who enjoyed yet another successful season at Nice last term.

Andy Astfalck/Getty Images Sport

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with respective moves for Seri but according to the Telegraph, Chelsea are likely to end their interest in the player if a deal can be reached for Golovin.

It’s stated in the report that Chelsea have observed similarities between Golovin and Real Madrid star Luka Modric, helping to convince them of his qualities as they chase a big summer deal for the rising star.

Guillem Balague makes another strange claim about David de Gea

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has continued to stoke the fire surrounding David de Gea, noting that the Manchester United keeper was going through a “crisis of confidence” with Spain at this World Cup.

The Spaniard came under the spotlight after letting a Cristiano Ronaldo shot slip through his fingers during a 3-3 draw with Portugal.

He let another shot slip under him against Iran, with VAR coming to his rescue, and had his weakness with one-on-ones exposed against Morocco on Monday, prompting widespread derision from the Spanish press and come calls for him to be dropped against Russia.

And Balague, speaking to Sky Sports, has refuted the idea that De Gea was the best keeper in the world and claimed he was going through a crisis.

“He is going through a crisis of confidence that is affecting everybody and there are calls for him not to be played in the next match,” he said.

“He’s only made one mistake but he stays on the goal-line, when he comes out he’s not assured and I guarantee you I know this for a fact the players are looking back and thinking ‘De Gea, what’s going on?’

“Is he [the best goalkeeper in the world]? Right now? Who is the best goalkeeper in the world? Well I would say I like Ter Stegen, I like Oblak, I like Alisson, you can argue it.”

De Gea didn’t come to the World Cup in the middle of a crisis. De Gea came to the World Cup with the ‘Golden Glove’ and club’s ‘Player of the Season’ award under his belt.

The real problem here is De Gea’s relationship with the Spanish national team, and the country as a whole. He does not feel at home playing for La Roja and his antipathy towards the national press is well known. There is an air of unease in his demeanour worlds apart from that steely confidence we see between the sticks at Old Trafford.

You can see why. De Gea has become the number one target for the Spanish press despite problems in Fernando Hierro’s side running much deeper than just their keeper. Their attack was exposed as blunt edged against Iran and their defence shaky against Morocco. They have just one win at this World Cup.

Perhaps Balague, and by extension the Spanish press, ought to focus on more than just the United keeper when diagnosing his country’s troubles at these finals.

Thibaut Courtois reveals his opinions on Belgium team-mate Marouane Fellaini

Thibaut Courtois has expressed his opinions on Belgium team-mate Marouane Fellaini ahead of the nation’s World Cup Round of 16 clash against Japan on Monday.

Both players have starred under Roberto Martinez as Belgium won all three of their Group G games against Panama, Tunisia and England, which has seen them pitted against Group H runners-up Japan.

Fellaini had even more to celebrate on Friday as it was announced he had extending his Manchester United contract until 2020 with the option of a further year, but the news has been fairly ill-received by supporters.

Courtois has backed the 30-year-old midfielder though, and has endorsed him as a ‘useful’ player on the pitch after a solid performance in the 1-0 win against Gareth Southgate’s England on Thursday night, courtesy on a wonder strike from ex-Man United star Adnan Januzaj.

Courtois said: “Well I think Marouane is a player that often is criticised by a lot of fans, but I think he’s a very useful player. You can always kick a long ball to him, he’s strong, he can keep the ball.

“I think [against England] showed he can dribble, he passed some defenders as well. I think he’s a very useful player. I don’t say you will need him every game, I think managers decide, obviously, it depends on what of opponent they face, but I think he’s a very good to have in your team.

“I said when we played, for example, against Manchester [United] this year and we were winning 1-0, he came on, I didn’t like seeing him on the pitch because I knew they would put balls into the box, and he will have a header or he will deflect the ball to another guy.

“You always have to be very careful when he’s on the pitch, so I think he’s a very useful player.”

The 6 ft 4 midfielder has regularly been used as a scapegoat since joining from Everton for £27m in 2013, but players and coaches all have nothing negative to say about his impact in the dressing room and on the pitch.

Belgium are being touted to go far in Russia this summer, but once their campaign is done Fellaini can start think about joining United on the tour of the United States as pre-season preparations commence.

Spain manager Fernando Hierro reveals decision on David de Gea's place in the team

Spain manager Fernando Hierro has revealed his decision on David de Gea‘s place in the team following a shaky start to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

De Gea conceded a total of five goals in the three Group B games – including fumbling a Ronaldo shot in the 3-3 opener against Portugal and conceding twice to bottom nation Morocco in a 2-2 draw as the 2010 World Champions somehow topped the group on just five points.

His uncharacteristic performances have led to mass criticism from the Spanish press which has led to speculation that Hierro was tempted to drop the Manchester United no. 1 for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spain boss has denied the claims though, as well as fully backing De Gea by suggesting he was the first name on the team-sheet for the knockout rounds.

“Against Russia, De Gea will play and ten more, there is no debate, he will play. I respect the opinions of everyone, but the one who makes the decisions is us. I have a lot of clear ideas for the match against Russia.”

In the World Cup Round of 16, Hierro’s Spain face a very tricky test against host nation Russia on Sunday at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow as part of what many are considering as the favourable half of the draw.

The only other top performers in the tournament so far as part of that half are Croatia, who Spain could meet in the quarter-finals, and England, who are represented by four of De Gea’s United team-mates – Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.

Man United fans overjoyed by blossoming bromance between two key forwards

Alexis Sanchez has pledged his support for Belgium in the World Cup this summer because of his ever-growing friendship with Manchester United attacking team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

The Chilean has struggled make an impact since his arrival in the January transfer window which sparked rumours suggesting he’s struggling to fit in with his new team, but the bond between himself and Lukaku would appear to be as strong as any other amongst the squad.

Whilst Alexis was under-performing in the second half of the 2017-18 season, the Belgian striker was going in the opposite direction as he tallied up a total of 27 goals in his debut campaign at Man United.

And now he’s received strong backing from Alexis, who has praised his form in front of goal and revealed how close the two players actually are off the field.

“I want Belgium to win the World Cup, for my friend Lukaku. We’re very close friends, we always talk and go out for dinner in England. We have a great friendship,” he told Fox Sports.

“He’s sharp, he’s on fire and I hope he wins the Golden Boot. We get on very well, we go everywhere together. We talk about the team a lot to be able to improve it.”

https://twitter.com/utdxtra/status/1012837011361853441

Alexis has been forced to watch the World Cup in Russia on his TV this summer following Chile’s failure to qualify, but United fans will be hoping the break has given him enough time to show what he’s truly capable at Old Trafford once the 2018-19 season gets underway.

Man United great reacts to Marouane Fellaini contract extension

Gary Neville has given his opinion on Marouane Fellaini signing a new two-year contract at Manchester United amidst fan dismay.

It was announced on Friday afternoon that the club had agreed to extend Fellaini’s deal until 2020, with the option of a further year, which has not gone down well with fans.

A large chunk of supporters feel like the Belgium international’s attempt at holding the club ransom deem him undeserving of a longer stay at Old Trafford, where he’s been targeted as a scapegoat since his 2013 arrival.

Neville has disagreed with the negativity over the news though, telling Sky Sports: “I don’t think it makes a huge difference either way because he’s not the final piece of the jigsaw that gets United back to winning the Premier League title. What we did see from Marouane last night is that he is somebody who can contribute.

“There’s always a lot of exposure on Fellaini – people saying ‘he’s not a United midfielder’ – but the reality is he does contribute in the season and you need all different types in the dressing room. If United need to go long, he’s someone who can do it.

“If I was sat here as a United fan thinking he was the number one midfielder player I wouldn’t be happy. But if I was thinking he’s part of a midfield pool of four or five players then I would be satisfied with that.”

David Moyes made Fellaini his first signing as Man United manager for £27m from Everton, but the 30-year-old’s negative impact on the style of play and his disciplinary issues has resulted in fans turning against him over his five years at the club.

He is a valued member of Jose Mourinho’s squad though and is known for his impact off the bench, but his new wage of over £125,000 per week would suggest there are bigger plans in store for him throughout the 2018-19 season.

The news hasn’t gone down well with United supporters, but the negativity is bound to pipe down if Fellaini does take up a rotary role upon his return from representing Belgium at the World Cup this summer.

Why a large chunk of the Man United squad could be missing for the start of pre-season

12 Manchester United players flew to Russia with their respected countries for the 2018 World Cup this summer and 11 of them still remain as the knock-out stages commence.

There has already been a number of stand-out performances from Man United players in this year’s tournament, with many representatives playing for frontrunners who are tipped to go all the way and lift the iconic trophy.

Notable United names were left out of their respected squads; Spanish duo Ander Herrera and Juan Mata were omitted, Chris Smalling didn’t make the England cut and Anthony Martial was a surprise absentee from the French set-up.

The 12 stars who did get a place on the plane though were: Marcos Rojo (Argentina), Marouane Fellaini and Romelu Lukaku (Belgium), Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford (England), Paul Pogba (France), Nemanja Matic (Serbia), David de Gea (Spain), Victor Lindelof (Sweden) and new £50m summer signing Fred (Brazil).

Lingard and Lukaku in particular lit up Group G for England and Belgium, with the 25-year-old winger netting a stunning strike against Panama and the latter currently second in the race for the golden boot with four goals.

Matic, however, is the only United man to have suffered a group stage exit as his Serbia side were eliminated from Group E in which Brazil expectedly topped it and Switzerland bettered them for second.

We’ll get to see one United vs United clash in the last 16, as Rojo’s Argentina, who narrowly scraped through Group D, take on Pogba’s France after they finished top of Group C.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping none of his players go to far in the World Cup though, as United fly out to the United States on the day of the final in Moscow, meaning the manager could be without several key names for the start of 2018-19 preparations.

Jose Mourinho reveals impact Wayne Rooney will have on MLS

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he feels Wayne Rooney‘s summer move to American team DC United will help attract further interest in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Rooney’s move to the Washington-based side from boyhood club Everton was confirmed on Thursday afternoon as he became the latest in a string of high-profile footballers to make the States their final career destination.

The 32-year-old’s return to Goodison Park after 13 seasons at Manchester United only lasted one year, but was the club’s top scorer in the 2017-18 campaign with 11 goals.

Mourinho has had his say on Rooney’s, who he appointed captain for his first season as Man United manager, long career in England and described it as “perfect.”

While in Russia covering the World Cup as a pundit, he told reporters: “When he made it at Everton, his boyhood club, the world was surprised with that kid and then he went to Manchester United and he had the incredible career he had.”

The Portuguese boss continued: “Then in the Premier League again at Everton Football Club, so I think his career in England was perfect.”

Mourinho went on to state what kind of positive impact he believes Rooney will have on the wide-scale interest in MLS.

“I just hope he enjoys it and of course he’ll bring the attention that MLS needs to steal some people from the other sports that normally the American people are in love with.”

“He decides the MLS [is next] and in MLS, you have always some iconic players that are going to end their career there. You had [Steven] Gerrard, you had [Frank] Lampard, you had [Patrick] Vieira, you had so many of them. David Beckham played there too.

“You now have Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], you now have Wayne. I just hope he enjoys it and, of course, he’ll bring the attention that the MLS needs to attract more people, to steal some people from the other sports that normally the American people are in love with.”

Rooney won 16 major honours during his time at Old Trafford and is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 253 goals, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton with a stunning late equaliser against Stoke City in January 2017.

The retired England international is also his country’s leading scorer on 53 goals, so the vast excitement he’s bound to bring to fans of MLS ahead of the new season is no secret.

Marouane Fellaini signing a new deal has MAJOR implications on Man United's search for a new midfielder

Manchester United reportedly believed that Marouane Fellaini was dead-set on leaving the club this summer as recently as two weeks ago.

It was announced today that Fellaini has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at Man United until 2020, with the option of a further year following mass speculation over his future.

The 30-year-old was widely expected to depart Old Trafford ahead of the 2018-19 season after turning down a contract renewal offer back in September due to wage demands and the fact his deal was set to expire on Sunday.

United editor at the Manchester Evening News Samuel Luckhurst tweeted this evening that, according to his sources, the club thought the player’s stance was to leave as a free agent as recently as a fortnight ago.

https://twitter.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1012730488748994560

Because of this, United were actively looking on the market for replacements in the same area amidst links with SS Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos.

Fellaini’s confirmed stay in Manchester has almost certainly ended Mourinho’s wish to bring in a new midfielder this summer though, leaving £50m Shakhtar Donetsk man Fred as the only midfield arrival during the transfer window.

It is unknown what role the Belgium international will play next season, after featuring as a rotary squad member throughout the 2017-18 campaign, but Mourinho will be delighted at the star’s ultimate decision to stay.

Jose Mourinho's unsurprising reaction to Marouane Fellaini signing a new deal at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight at Marouane Fellaini‘s late decision to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

Fellaini seemed destined to leave Man United as the expiration of his current contract on Sunday was quickly approaching after rejected a renewal offer back in September.

The Belgian midfielder has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the option of a further year though, and his manager is pleased with the ultimate outcome of the saga.

Following the announcement, which has received a mixed reception from United fans, Mourinho told the club website: “I am very happy Marouane is staying with us. I always believed in his desire to stay with the club and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract.”

Mourinho and Fellaini have built a special relationship during their time together at Old Trafford, starting when the former made the effort to personally phone the 6 ft 4 star just a day after he was appointed boss in May 2016.

The United manager publicised his wish that the Belgium international would stay on a number of occasions throughout the 2017-18 season, most recently after he headed in a late winner during the 2-1 win over Arsenal in April.

Fellaini said thanks to his boss Mourinho after signing on the dotted line, stating: “I would like to say a special thank you to Jose for the faith he has always shown in me.”

He’ll now link up with the rest of the squad in the United States for pre-season once his duties at the World Cup this summer are over, in which he’s in the round of 16 against Japan with Belgium.

Matteo Darmian's move to Juventus looks to have fallen through

Matteo Darmian‘s proposed move to Juventus looks to have fallen through after the Serie A champions spent £35.5m on Valencia right back Joao Cancelo.

The Italian was almost entirely frozen out of the first team by Jose Mourinho last season, making just 12 starts in nine months.

He looked destined for a return to Turin last month, with Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta admitting the club wanted to sign him.

But the arrival of Cancelo, who will replace Stephan Lichtsteiner, has made it seriously unlikely that Juventus will make an effort to bring in Darmian as well.

The Italian’s name has been strongly linked with the Serie A champions for some time and it looked as if the move was essentially a done deal, but somebody inside the club has seen sense and found an actually half decent defender.

Darmian will nonetheless find a new club this summer having fallen out of favour under Mourinho. A move to another Serie A club is likely.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Juventus, according to reports in Italy, are set to hold a summit where they will discuss the futures of Alex Sandro, Sami Khedira and Anthony Martial. You can’t help but feel as if these two clubs will do business with each other over the next month or so.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah's plans for next season revealed: report

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has no plans to leave Manchester United on a permanent basis this summer and will fight for a place in Jose Mourinho’s side, according to reports.

The youngster enjoyed a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, during which he made 21 Premier League appearances and impressed with his tenacity at the back.

He has returned to Man United ahead of pre-season and was seen working hard back in the club’s kit as he prepares to impress Jose Mourinho during his pre-season tour.

And according to Sport Witness’ Naveen Ullal, Fosu-Mensah will reject any offers of a permanent deal from other clubs – with Valencia rumoured to be interested – and focus on proving himself to Mourinho, although he may opt for another loan move if he is unlikely to receive many minutes at Old Trafford next season.

Fosu-Mensah made the right call heading off on loan last season. He needed the game time – notably Premier League game time – and has come back to Old Trafford a better player, grander in stature, his technique more refined.

But to move away again would be a waste. United may well end this window with Diogo Dalot as their sole reinforcement at full-back – a truly laughable yet worryingly likely possibility – and all it would take is an injury to, say, Ashley Young, or even Chris Smalling at centre back, for the Dutchman to get a chance in the starting XI.

Fred reveals what Nemanja Matic said to him after Brazil 2-0 Serbia

Fred has opened up about a “quiet conversation” he had with Nemanja Matic about Manchester United following Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia.

The midfielder followed Diogo Dalot to become the club’s second signing of the summer last week in a deal worth £52.7m.

He will occupy a crucial role in Jose Mourinho’s team next season but his current focus is on a last 16 clash with Mexico at the World Cup, which Brazil reached through beating Serbia 2-0 in their final group game.

Speaking soon after the game, Fred revealed how Matic spoke to him afterwards and noted how he was joining the biggest club in the world.

The 25-year-old can look to Matic for inspiration when it comes to acclimatising to life at United: the sheer pressure, the composure and confidence you need, the stature of the club and, crucially, the psychology of the manager, and what he wants from a player. Matic took all of that into his stride like it was nothing last season.

Fred has been signed to add greater sophistication to United’s attack. Too often the midfield trio – or duo – looked stultified, static, unable to move play forward. And Fred has earned a place in the Brazil squad – and now Man United’s starting XI – off the back of his capacity to quell midfield inertia.

Mourinho has always placed emphasis on that ‘killer pass’ from midfield. Fred’s task is to simply do that.

Chelsea fail in move to sign promising Tottenham midfielder

Chelsea failed in an attempt to land promising Tottenham midfielder Noni Madueke, who has agreed to join Dutch champions PSV.

The Scotsman reports that Chelsea, along with Celtic, Manchester United, Juventus and RB Leipzig were all keen to snap up the youngster once it became known he would be leaving Spurs.

Madueke has left Spurs to sign a professional deal in the Eredivisie, which is proving to be a popular breeding ground for young players.

The 16-year-old becomes the latest young English player to make the move abroad in search of regular first-team football.

Both the Eredivisie and the Bundesliga have become popular destinations for players looking to take the next step in their careers.

The attacking midfielder had been offered a new deal by Spurs, but he turned it down in order to take the big step that is moving abroad.

Chelsea have become known for swooping up the best talent at a young age as they continue to dominate the youth scene domestically.

Marouane Fellaini: This is why I signed a new contract at Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini has explained his decision to remain at Manchester United after the club confirmed the Belgian midfielder had signed a two year deal at Old Trafford.

Reports emerged from Belgium earlier this week that Fellaini, who had looked destined for a new club, would in fact sign a new two year contract at Man United.

And it was announced on the club’s official website on Friday that the Belgian midfielder – a player most supporters wanted to see the back of – had agreed on a new contract which keeps him in Manchester until 2020.

Fellaini, a day after performing well in a 1-0 win over England at the World Cup, explained that he chose to stay at United because he was happy playing under Jose Mourinho.

“I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player,” he said. “I made this decision because I am very happy here. Also, I feel like this team, under Jose, still has a lot we want to achieve.”

“I would like to say a special thank you to Jose for the faith he has always shown in me. My focus now is on the World Cup and I am looking forward to a successful season ahead.”

If this was the real reason behind Fellaini staying then the contract would have been tied up months ago.

That this saga has dragged on for so long comes down to Fellaini receiving an offer – one of many – from United, turning his nose up at it, holding meets with the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan and Besiktas, realising he wouldn’t get a better offer elsewhere, before ultimately signing the dotted line at Old Trafford.

There is nothing wrong with that per se. At the age of 30 this will be his last big contract, after all. But the explanation is simply dishonest, and United’s handling of this case – allowing Fellaini to lead the dance at negotiations, failing to arrive at a quick solution, letting so much talk of it meet the public gaze – has been nothing short of embarrassing.

Real Madrid star could be heading to Chelsea after rejecting big-money move to the Bundesliga

Chelsea have been named as potential suitors to land James Rodriguez this summer after the player reportedly turned down a permanent move to Bayern Munich.

Sky Sports in Germany cite reports from Diario Gol that claim the player does not want to play under new manager Niko Kovac.

Bayern had been hoping to land the player on a permanent basis this summer and had a €55 million deal arranged after the Colombian enjoyed a productive season on loan from Real Madrid.

Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport

However, Rodriguez now looks set for another move, with the Premier League looking a likely destination.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move, but with neither club able to offer the player Champions League football it is yet to be seen if he would be interested in a move to London.

Chelsea are also closing in on a deal to sign Russian star Aleksandr Golovin, which may cast further doubts over a move for Rodriguez.

Confirmed: Marouane Fellaini signs new contract at Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini has penned a new deal with Manchester United which will keep him at the club until 2020, the club has confirmed.

Talks with the Belgian have been ongoing for almost a year, with the midfielder rejecting several offers from the club – the first of which came last September – before eventually agreeing on extending his future at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old, who only managed four starts in seven months last season, has irked supporters by claiming he was in a “strong position” in talks and entering talks with a number of other clubs in an attempt to get a better offer.

But after months of speculation and a prolonged period where it seemed as if his time at the club as over after five years, Man United announced on Friday afternoon that Fellaini had agreed a new two year contract.

We cannot blame Fellaini for wanting a good deal. His manager wants him and, at the age of 30, this will be his last big contract. United, it should be known, have a policy of only handing rolling one year contracts to players aged 30 or above.

He has worked towards getting the best deal, which is fine, I guess. Anybody would do that. The disgraceful aspect of this whole ordeal, rather, is the way United – a club that once booted out players like David Beckham, Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy – have allowed Fellaini to dictate play at every turn.

They have allowed for this to rumble on aimlessly, allowed Fellaini to speak about his “strong position” in public, allowed him to talk with Arsenal and AC Milan. There could have been a point where they put their foot down – possibly on the eve of the World Cup – and given him an ultimatum: either sign this now or forget it.

In the end, Fellaini has gotten what he wanted, supporters are disgruntled, the club looks weak, and United probably aren’t going to add any further reinforcements to their midfield this summer.

Championship club closing in on deal for Chelsea midfielder

Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Lewis Baker from Chelsea this summer.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are looking to land Baker on a permanent deal, although are open to the idea of a season-long loan.

Baker spent time at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season, but was unable to make his mark on Tony Pulis’ side.

Dan Istitene/Getty Images Sport

The 23-year-old spent two years on loan to Vitesse in the Dutch league, where he scored 20 goals.

Since breaking into senior football in 2013, Baker has only made one appearance for Chelsea’s first-team, joining four teams on loan since then.

Leeds are now looking to offer him a permanent escape from Stamford Bridge and the chance to make a name for himself in the Championship.

Baker was a regular for England’s under-21 side in recent years and will now have aspirations to make the senior squad.

A move to the Championship could give him the kick-start he needs to progress.

Huge boost for Chelsea as free scoring striker is 'tempted' by Stamford Bridge move

Gonzalo Higuain would reportedly be ‘tempted’ by a move to Chelsea should Maurizio Sarri take over this summer.

Football Italia, as cited on Calcio Mercato, claim that Juventus are ready to sell the player this summer and a move to Stamford Bridge could excite the former Real Madrid striker.

Despite scoring 16 times in Serie A last season, Juventus are ready to cash in on the player and look for a younger striker to lead the line for the Old Lady.

Gabriel Rossi/Getty Images Sport

Higuain is known to have a strong relationship with Maurizio Sarri from their time together at Napoli.

Sarri is expected to be named as Antonio Conte’s successor at Stamford Bridge imminently, in what has become one of the most drawn-out sagas of the summer so far.

It is yet to be seen whether or not Chelsea will meet Juventus’ asking price for the player, but they could use the Italian’s interest in Alvaro Morata to help strike a deal.

Chelsea join European giants in pursuit of experienced defender as club need to sell

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to rival Manchester United for the signature of Leonardo Bonucci.

Calcio Mercato reports that several European clubs are considering moves for the Milan defender with the club looking to raise funds this summer.

It was recently confirmed that the Serie A side would be banned from next season’s Europa League after they were found to breach Financial Fair Play rules.

Claudio Villa/Getty Images Sport

This has left them needing to sell players this summer and the likes of Bonucci, Suso and Gianluigi Donnarumma are now seeing their futures at the San Siro thrown into doubt.

The Italian defender was heavily linked with a move to both the Premier League and Chelsea last summer when it became known that he would be leaving Juventus.

Head coach Antonio Conte was very keen on bringing the player to Stamford Bridge, but he opted to stay in Italy and join Milan for family reasons.

Manchester United star has night to forget against Belgium

Marcus Rashford spurned a glorious chance to write himself into the World Cup history books during a turgid 1-0 defeat to Belgium in Kaliningrad.

The 20-year-old was handed his first World Cup start as Gareth Southgate made eight changes to his starting XI, with opposite number Roberto Martinez making nine.

As a result the game had a meandering, disjointed feel, completely at odds with the sheer ferocity of the football seen in the group stages. And it was none other than former Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj – off the back of a rejuvenating season with Real Sociedad – who supplied the game’s only moment of quality with a sweet strike early in the second half.

England’s best move came when Jamie Vardy, with 20 minutes remaining, cleverly slipped the ball into Rashford’s path. The youngster had acres of space to run into, plenty of time to think, too much time perhaps.

As he approached Thibaut Courtois he opened his body up, looking to bend it round the Belgian. A nation held his breath as he struck it, and collectively exhaled in deflation as the shot flew wide. Painfully, miserably, predictably wide. The Chelsea keeper got the slightest of fingertips to it but the shot wasn’t on target anyway.

You felt in the pit of your stomach that he wouldn’t score it. Rashford, especially last season, has an unwelcome habit of spurning chances when he has too much time to think about them. That confidence just isn’t there. Seeing it go wide only compounded that notion. Had that gone in it may have served as a watershed moment for the youngster – a turning point ahead of next season.

That, above anything, was why that miss hurt so much from a Man United fan’s perspective. After a season of toil, consigned primarily to the bench and reduced of opportunities, Rashford needed a goal. He will have to score a dramatic winner against Colombia instead.

Chelsea reject £50m bid from European giants

Chelsea have reportedly turned a bid in excess of £50 million from Barcelona for Brazilian winger Willian.

The Daily Mail claims that the player’s agent and representatives have been in Barcelona amid speculation about his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Catalan side are hoping to add to their attack this summer and see Willian as a valuable transfer target.

Stu Forster/Getty Images Sport

The player has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea after falling out of favour during the second half of last season.

Chelsea have been braced for interest in the Brazilian, with Manchester United reportedly considering a summer move.

Ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho has never failed to hide his admiration for the player and is expected to try and lure him to Old Trafford.

The report claims that United could outbid Barcelona with a higher fee, but that leaves Chelsea with the prospect of selling yet another first-team player to a direct domestic rival.

With Willian due to turn 30 in the coming months, the Blues could consider a summer sale with the amount of money being offered.

Chelsea make plans to include promising midfielder in the first-team squad

Chelsea have no plans to loan out Aleksandr Golovin should he complete his expected £27 million move to Stamford Bridge.

The Telegraph report that the Blues are in talks to sign the player from CSKA Moscow and see him as a valuable asset for their first-team squad next season.

Juventus had been linked with the player, but reports have suggested that they are now looking elsewhere, clearing the way for the player to join Chelsea.

The Blues want the player to battle for a place in their squad next season, with the aim of adding some youthfulness to their midfield.

Golovin is a player that Chelsea have tracked for some time and they now lead the race to sign the player who has enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign.

Clive Rose/Getty Images Sport

The Russian international is also someone that Maurizio Sarri is a known admirer of. Sarri had attempted to sign the player for Napoli during his time in charge of the club.

The 22-year-old put in a couple of impressive performances for Russia during the World Cup group stages, which included an eye-catching free-kick against Saudi Arabia on the opening day of the tournament.

Champions League outfit plan move for one of Chelsea's most highly-rated youngsters

AS Monaco are reportedly considering an eye-catching swoop for Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

According to Dahbai Hattabi of Foot Mercato in France, the Ligue 1 outfit have set their sights on the promising young winger after securing a deal to sign Jonathan Panzo from the Blues.

Panzo is set to make the move to Monaco in a €3 million deal as he goes in search of regular game time elsewhere.

Michael Emenalo’s links with Chelsea have seen a string of young players touted as transfer targets for Leonardo Jardim’s side since the former’s arrival at the club.

Catherine Ivill/Getty Images Sport

Hudson-Odoi is one of the most highly-rated players in the Chelsea academy and one those behind the scenes are very excited about, so they will be desperate to keep hold of the player and are unlikely to consider a summer sale.

A deal to sign Hudson-Odoi would not be as easy for Monaco, given that the winger has already penned a professional contract with Chelsea, something that Panzo had not done.

Fred reveals which teammate at Man Utd he thinks will be great

Manchester United’s latest star Fred believes Nemanja Matic will be a great teammate following the two clashing in the World Cup with Serbia and Brazil having played each other.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk man’s nation was the one to come out of that battle as the victors as they sent their opponents out of the competition.

Jose Mourinho will certainly be pleased that Matic will now be able to get some extra rest and enjoy a holiday as he’s crucial to his manager’s plans next season.

Fred has yet to start a match for Brazil after picking up an injury just before the World Cup began much to the frustration of United fans who were keen to see him play.

Nonetheless, the Brazilian admitted it was nice to meet with Nemanja before even arriving at the club and he’s predicted that the two will enjoy each other’s company.

According to ESPN, Fred said: “It was a nice chat with him, he welcomed me for coming to the great club that is Manchester. We exchanged shirts, too, he will be a great teammate.

“It’s [the move] a big change, but I have not stopped yet … It still hasn’t set in, I’m very focused here on the World Cup. I do not think much about it, but it’s a great club in Europe, it’s one of the biggest, so I’m very happy for that.”

Fred is expected to line up alongside Matic and Paul Pogba to form a midfield three next season that’s good enough to stand up against any of the Premier League’s best.

It’s unlikely that Jose spent around £50m on the 25 year old only to have him as a back up to either one of the other midfielders but the manager’s plans will become clearer once the season begins.
