Arsene Wenger has insisted that his former captain, Mikel Arteta has all the qualities needed to replace him as Arsenal manager (via beIN Sports).
It must be a strange thing for Arsene Wenger to think about but the Frenchman has been asked his thoughts on the list of potential candidates to replace him as Arsenal manager.
The Frenchman stepped down last week after 22 years in charge of the club and the hunt for his successor is well underway.
Former Gunners captain and current Manchester City coach, Mikel Arteta is the current frontrunner for the job and Wenger was asked about his former player’s suitability for the role.
“He has all the qualities to do the job, yes and I think as well he is one of the favourites,” Wenger said of the Spaniard.
“He was a leader, and he has a good passion for the game and he knows the club well, he knows what is important at the club and he was captain of the club. Why Not?”
Why not, indeed. Mikel Arteta is clearly an interesting concept as Arsenal manager and is seemingly something Arsenal are considering. The Spaniard is the favourite for the job and it seems he has Arsene Wenger’s seal of approval too.
