Eric Bailly missed the Manchester United ‘Player of the Year’ awards ceremony with a dental problem and has no desire whatsoever to leave the club like some have speculated, according to reports.
The Ivorian has not featured for Man United since the 3-2 win over Manchester City nearly a month ago, missing the defeat to West Bromwich Albion through illness.
He returned to the bench at AFC Bournemouth but was nowhere to be seen for wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, or indeed the award ceremony on Tuesday night.
But according to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, Bailly was only absent for the ceremony due to a dental problem and is facing a battle to win back his first team place following Jose Mourinho’s recent preference for Victor Lindelof, but has no intention whatsoever to leave the club in the summer.
One of the great unmentioned disappointments of this season has been Bailly’s oscillation in and out of the United team. He begun this season superbly alongside Phil Jones, only to miss three months with injury. His appearances have then been sporadic since his return in February. Out of the 52 games played by United this term, the 24-year-old has missed more than half of them.
Supporters will desperately hope that Bailly’s career at United is not ultimately remembered for his injury record rather than what he did on the pitch.
